Turbos are disappearing
Discussion
After a company sale I am in the fortunate position of being able to add to my small car collection, in the form of a 911 Turbo/Turbo S. With a budget of up to around £90k, but ideally less, for a cabriolet with 2 pedals. The idea is it will be used by my wife and the dog to visit her parents (with me if I am in the country) and by me for city driving/going to the tennis club etc, and the occasional longer haul. My other cars are all manual 2 seaters so the practicality element is useful, and the power just for kicks.
My wife has specified auto/cabrio and I am fine with this. Looking at 991.2 TT / S, 991.1 TT / S, 997.2 TT / S PDK and possibly 997.1 Tip. But, having scanned the classifieds for Turbos, I am wondering where they have all gone. When I was searching vicariously between around 2018 and 2024, there were dozens at one time; I have a note of 60 991 Turbos on Autotrader alone in 2024, including 26 cabrios.
Now there are hardly any - 2 on Porsche approved used, a handful on PH and AT, including some fishing expeditions long sold by dealers. And a few slightly ropy ones that have been on sale for ages. One or two way overpriced hit and hopes.
Where have all the rest of them gone? In my experience this kind of mass withdrawal from sale happens when there is a perception of a rising market and people are hanging on. But is that the case here, even for 991s? There is literally not a single car on the market that I want to view, that is, reasonably low miles (not garage queen), great history, no stories, realistic price. (I'd also like an interesting colour combo but at the moment that's not even worth thinking about).
Thoughts, anyone? I know certain 911s are always on the up, but 991 Turbo Cabs, really? I know it's autumn, but there were always 15+ good ones on sale even in November.

I don't have any particular insights on Turbos, but there seems to be relatively few 991s for sale at the moment in general (especially .1s). Those that are, are either a bit ropey or optimistically priced. That said I have heard that 991 prices are on the up so perhaps not so optimistically priced.
I own a regular 991.1 C4S coupe but still browse the classifieds from time to time to see what values are doing, no plans to sell though. Perhaps that's the issue, newer 911s don't really float my boat (not that I could afford one) and if other owners feel the same that would explain the lack of supply.

That makes sense, so people are hanging on to 991s in general as they don't want to swap to 992s. I think this happened with 997s and 991s about 8-9 years ago.
It's hard to then get a fix on what the real values are, what with ropey cars hanging around, very nice cars being offered for joke prices, none of the above selling, and nothing much in between, that's certainly the case for 991 Turbos. I just checked GTSs and it seems similar, from 15-20 991.2 GTS cabrios on offer 2-3 years ago at any one time there are just a handful.
Must be hard for dealers also, no stock to sell at a normal price.

If it’s for your wife to drive the dog about in and for you to tootle to the tennis club, why not just find a normal 911 cab given they are turbo’d and plenty quick enoigh to meet that brief? My wife has specified auto/cabrio and I am fine with this. Car market is weird at the moment given what s going on in the world.
I sold a Lotus Exige to WBAC for 2.5k more than I paid a year prior and the dealer who purchased it off WBAC has now got it up for 15k than what they was going for 2 years old.
I also traded my 991.1 Turbo S to an OPC (which let s face it will be the lowest number possible) for only 3k less than I paid 3 years ago and it needed a front repair and respray plus tyres. It s now up at 20k more

Interesting, thank you, and strange. Maybe people are hoarding non-hybridsI sold a Lotus Exige to WBAC for 2.5k more than I paid a year prior and the dealer who purchased it off WBAC has now got it up for 15k than what they was going for 2 years old.
