996 Manthey GT3
Discussion
Hi all,
New member here! I recently purchased a 996.1 Manthey GT3 and would love to know if anyone has some more information/history on it. It's currently sat in Germany awaiting transit back here to Monaco which I'm very excited about.
The car is currently registered in Finland DER 996 but I believe it was purchased from William Betts of the UK back in 2009.
Before him I think it was one of the earliest Manthey 996 s made. As of today I purchased it from the late Juha Miettinen, so it has quite a history.
If anyone has any photos or knowledge of William Betts I d love to get in touch!
Photos and video to come when I can figure out how to upload it

What a brilliant first picture. Hopefully not too much touching up. It would make a brilliant wet film picture. I may have to do another DN event if that many 996 and 997 GT3/RS attend.
I am a little surprised how many there have the rear aero spoiler but not the corresponding front aero ( at least x3).
Anyway fabulous picture. One for the garage AND office
Pip
Ps surely you aren't taking the side decals off too?...?

Thanks.
How can you tell it's a 996.1 rear bumper? Or are you pulling my leg?
How very dare you T ?? How can you tell it's a 996.1 rear bumper? Or are you pulling my leg?

Mk2 rear bumper protrudes out here :
Mk1 rear bumper has this fine swage line to break up the large area and this part of the bumper doesn't protrude :
From the rear of the car the bumpers are very different. The Mk 1 item is more sculpted between the exhaust cutouts.
I think the Mk 1 bumper looks neater, more organic, smoother, less "bulky" than that on the Mk2.
The Mk2 styling marked the start of Porsche "bulking" up their designs to make them look bigger and more modern.

It appears I can t post any photos of the car since I just joined the group, but it still has the MK1 rear bumper. I’m sure somebody can correct me here, but none of the Mk2 Manthey’s received the GT2 style wing or the internal carbon ducting
It would actually surprise me if the car changed at all from this photo, history I have shows it barely being driven the last 5 years.
Can’t wait to have it on the road here

Every day is a school day. I've never had a mk1, nor studied its undercarriage

Cheers.

So std mk2 cars fitted with the K410 kits retained std boot spoiler config. It would actually surprise me if the car changed at all from this photo, history I have shows it barely being driven the last 5 years.

However, a batch of cars were taken straight from the production line to Manthey (pre-registration I believe) and then manthey did the K410 plus other body updates as well. I believe these were then badged as 'Manthey' on the bonnet and possibly on the registration doc too. A friend has a mk2 Manthey car which then does have the GT2 style rear wing and an RS style front carbon bonnet (plus all the K410 updates including KW suspension) and Manthey badges on the bonnet instead of the std Porsche badge.
I don't know if Manthey did the same with any batches of mk1 cars.

It appears that's what has been done with this one too, it has a Manthey badge up front and the full works suspension, headers, single mass flywheels etc etc. However, a batch of cars were taken straight from the production line to Manthey (pre-registration I believe) and then manthey did the K410 plus other body updates as well. I'll post a few photos of it once I'm allowed

The Mk2 K410 kit didn't utilise the same induction modifications the Mk1 cars required (which was effectively an early 996 Cup arrangement, right down to the Cup air filter) so no internal carbon ducting was required. It would actually surprise me if the car changed at all from this photo, history I have shows it barely being driven the last 5 years.

I imagine both Manthey themselves and JZM may have recommended the fitment of 996 GT3 RS type cold air scoops on the exterior of the engine lid though :

and which weren't fitted to the "standard" 996.2 GT3 :

The GT2 style carbon wing on the Manthey badged mk2 cars have different intakes holes as part of the uprights which you can just spot in the photos above. This gave a more 'stereo' intake of air on both sides as well as the usual RS style intake. I must admit I don't know if any mods were made under the bootlid to channel this air differently or not...but will share if I find outI imagine both Manthey themselves and JZM may have recommended the fitment of 996 GT3 RS type cold air scoops on the exterior of the engine lid though :
