Evening, I have a newly installed Viessman 111-w WiFi enabled boiler and through a bit of a miscommunication it was not installed with a Hive style remote control system. The ViCare gives me basic functions but no programme, heating adjustment, boost etc.

I was going to retrofit a Hive system but our friend ChatGPT says the ViCare thermostat will do the same for less money and easier install? Appreciate this is a bit niche but any engineers got a view?
Thanks

I don’t know why this didn’t get any replies, as there are a few Viessmann owners on here.

I run a 200-W, so it might not directly compare. I run weather compensated, no thermostats and just use the ViCare app. It certainly has timed programmes and lets me adjust temperature if I need.

There are some 100-W users on here and the odd 111-W too, so hopefully they’ll spot this. This is the main thread where they hang out https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

I know nothing about Viessman boilers or thermostat, but if I may offer up an alternative to Hive, check out the Drayton Wiser system.

https://wiser.draytoncontrols.co.uk/?srsltid=AU7gw...

I've been using it for years and its brilliant, certainly lowered our heating costs, mainly by being able to heat single rooms when necessary. Daughter's bedroom used to be above the garage and was always freezing cold, the Wiser system allowed us to keep that room at a ice temperature without the rest of the house cooking.
It can also be integrated with HomeAssistant if that's your bag.

Lol - that'll be a long thread to chew thro (needs an update too)

Anyway my "heat only" 100W is set up on Weather Comp - I have a Wiser Hub and a single Wiser room stat - I was running Wiser "Smart" TRV's on all 13 Rads but they've all been removed - replaced with PICV from danfoss with std TRV heads set to fully open just to stop the rads looking ugly.

The only intervention the Wiser Hub has as far as boiler control is the Hot Water schedule (it's not connected to the boiler only the HWDB (Hot Water Demand Box) so the boiler runs 24/7

I did look at viessman controls but I already had all the Wiser Kit - the accepted wisdom is always go with manufacturers controls rather than 3rd party controls

All possible with viessmann controls, they do trv's as well now

It's always better imho to use manufacturer controls as they often have more control of the boiler etc even compared to opentherm

But anything is better than tpi control that most people use with aftermarket thermostats

Only just seen this, we have a Vitodens 100-W that was installed in 2020 but at that time the supplier of our underfloor heating system supplied us with a complete Heatmiser thermostat system. I wasn't aware at the time of the Viessman thermostats.

It just seemed to get lost due to the timing of the post.

Definitely stick with Viessmann's own control system with weather compensation. Third party controllers don't seem to integrate as well (certainly true in the case with my 200-w).
