Has anyone tried the various different options and compared how long they can keep slabs clean?

Our back patio is very shady so I know that will reduce the time it stays clean but I’ve now used Algon organic twice and it’s only lasted around 3 months most recently. I’d have thought it could have lasted longer than that through the summer, especially after I gave it a proper soak.

I can get 10 litres for £28 but curious about the other options.

Sodium Hypochlorite (15%) from Amazon if its really bad. Its the only thing that touched the while alge on my block drive. You can water it down a bit if you want.

I roller it on to make sure it only goes where I want it. Don't let it run off onto any grass/flowerbeds.

Sodium Hypochlorite is Bleach, but 15% is way stronger than household strength.

Just buy some bog standard bleach from TESCO (other shops also sell). mix it 1:3 with water pore it on with a watering can.

I do this 2-3 times a year and juts lightly rub it in with a soft brush do it when it's not got direct sun light on it as it will dry quickly.

Depends what your patio is.
SH will ruin limestone and some others and BAC 50 is sprayed on after you have cleaned it.

+1 for household bleach, but I only use it as a 1% solution.

100ml in a 10ltr bucket of warm water, slosh it over the patio and brush it about with a stiff brush. The runoff onto the lawn doesn't kill the grass due to the low concentration.

Leave it a few days and the patio looks like new.

Bac50 for me, just mix it up pour it over, from a watering can and wait a day, no brushing or scrubbing keeps it clear for a year or so.

What dilution rate do you use and does it need rinsing off?

Doesn’t need rinsed, works over time, dilution depends on what strength you buy.

About 40 to 1. but I don't measure it precisely.

Another vote for BAC50.

I mixed it around 10:1 (maybe too strong!) but it worked very well.

From my experience, don't expect instant results, but after around 2 weeks the patio, etc became noticeably better, then carried on working for months.

BAC50 should produce results after 6 or so hours. These were taken 5 hours apart. No scrubbing or messing about just mixed in watering can and poured on, and left.

I have used a vinegar solution on a fence. 20% dilution of white vinegar in water. Brushed on with a paintbrush and left. No scrubbing. Fence still clean after 2+ years. No green algae returned.
I haven't tried it on the porcelain patio yet to clean it ( it's pretty clean anyway) but tempted to try on a test slab.

Another add for BAC50, get the concentrate and dilute it. Just make sure you wear PPE and keep pets and the family off it for a while.
