Winning Ebay bid on a car auction, paying cash.
Discussion
I’ve just sold a guitar on there and insisted on collection.
Buyer came and gave me a code to enter to mark it as collected and eBay then released the money.
Actually works very well, especially for expensive sales and saves any comebacks.
Not sure if it’s the same for car sales though?

Just be careful because I've had that. Bought something else for a few quid unrelated and when I clicked to pay for it it lumped the car in with it and as it was only one click that was it, many thousands out of my account.
That was a few years ago now so it may not work the same way.

Ebay is weird
As buyer collecting I've been asked to give the seller a code in the ebay app etc for a £20 item.
Sold a trading card for over 5k recentry and didn't want to post it so met the buyer half way. I expected him to show a code that I would enter etc etc, but he paid, marked as paid and that was it. Weird, slightly scary and disconcerting but went without issue.
All I want is consistency!

I was under the impression that they had done away with the ability to "mark as paid" now. They want it paid by paypal and then they issue the code for the seller to scan at which point the money is released.
I had every intention of paying cash for something to stop the seller losing yet more but it seemed I couldn't. Seller didn't seem bothered so I just did it ebay's way.
Not sure if that applies to cars mind, not bought an ebay one recently.

Fees using PP for cars are horrendous.
I had a conversation with an ebay agent this morning.
According to him, we should have received a 6 digit code when the transaction took place BUT because it was a cash sale no code would be issued. The advert actually stated cash on collection.
He told me that the seller must mark the item as sold (I had already marked at my end that payment had been made) and then all would be resolved.
My current confidence levels are pretty low but two things I learned today
1) Never sell a car on ebay
2) If you want to talk to someone real rather than AI on the chatbox thing, type "Agent" and you get the option of a call back.
