Coding a battery and stuff

Chaps, I've been fairly quiet here for a while, so asking here as I'm at a loss as to what the correct procedure is.I have an opportunity to purchase an F32 from 2014 with the N47. The car is currently on 166k , manual and has goodies I'd like. It's currently being offered at a price I simply couldn't refuse.Problem is, I'm in Watford and the car is currently sat in Brum. I know the history of the car, so it's not an issue as the car started its life near to me.As it's been stood for a while, it may need a new battery. What's the cheapest and most efficient way of getting a new similar battery coded to it without me breaking the bank? The cheaper the better as I'm giving myself a strict budget for this thing. Any extras I can do to it would be a lovely added bonus.

Buy an Enet cable, a USB C adaptor and buy the Bimmerlink

Will cost £20-25 all in and you can code the battery, plus gives you future diagnostic capabilities.

Any garage should be able to code a battery, or find a member locally to you (facebook groups/on here) that can do it for you

Jumping in here. Would the above allow you access to the servicing part of the car (F22 B58)?

Something like the Creator C410 via Amazon for c£60 is worth buying - it's a code reader / reads live data and will allow you to register a like for like battery

But if you fit a battery with different specs; then it needs to be coded to the car, and then registered - so the likes of Bimmerlink and Bimmercode via your mobile; with the VGate dongle off Amazon are what's needed

Fit that and register it; it's like for like with what BMW would have offered - this is exactly what I did with my F31

It might be as simple as getting the AA to fit a new battery as Google says they handle the coding too, it looks worth a call at least.

Thank you for this.Is Bimmerlink open to all models or do you have to purchase the coding for specific generations? For example the E/F/G series separately?If it's a one time purchase with options to use other models later, that might be the best option of the bunch.

Hope you've checked the timing chain history -if not any coding equipment could be a waste of money 166k miles and been stood for a while two red flags

BimmerLink will work on all the vehicles.

I started using the WiFi dongle but the e-net cable has proved more useful over time. It works with my phone and laptop and provides more software options.

Bimmerlink / Bimmercode on their website will tell you which cars they work on - IIRC it's the E6x / E9x / E8x series onwards - so doesn't work for the likes of the E46s / E39s / E38s and earlier

Surely the easiest way to solve this is get the thing started, drive to a halfords, pay them a few quid to fit (which includes the coding) ?
If you can't get it started, go buy the battery, fit it and then drive straight there for the reset.
