Hands up, Guilty as charged... Nicked of a Youtuber.

This is based on Fernando signing up for '27.

IF a driver had a career the same length as Fernando... on paper, how their careers could have crossed.
Not taking into account a drivers actual age... that might get a bit silly.
Perhaps best not to include death or sabbaticals either.

Disclaimer: Open to interpretation & not to be used for any scientific analysis.

A few for starters... Other drivers are available. whistle

If Fangio had the opportunities the current crop have by starting at the age of 18, and F1 had begun earlier and there hadn't been the small inconvenience of WW2, he might have raced for 30 years...

Too many ands....

Could have overlapped with Seaman and Nuvolari.

The Youtuber refrained from going back to the first GP... probably for good reasons.

I still find it odd that Alonso raced with Alesi. There's quite a Few amusing overlaps going down this route.

I does throw up a few weird combos from different eras
Hunt onwards... making me feel old now. whistle
Strange to think, that drivers like Moss & Hawthorn could have been racing against JH in his Championship winning year.

Senna...Could have raced against some great drivers.

:NB: It helps put things into perspective.

There's a stranger stat than that - the year you have to go back to find a grid of drivers comprising at least one not to have raced against Micheal Schumacher.

That year is 1978!!

I need some kind of 'mind blown' gif for this. That's quite a stat, I'm sure you would win Pointless with that!

Presumably this is Riccardo Patrese, who raced between ‘76 and ‘93. Schumacher started in ‘91.

So the stat ought to be 1976.

Patrese was blamed for causing the crash that resulted in the death of Ronnie Peterson and was banned for the 1978 United States GP. This is the most recent GP to not feature a driver that raced against Schumacher.

Forgot about that, thank you. Every driver then apologised over time to Patrese except Hunt IIRC.

Yes, I think that is right.

For any that don't know the story, Patrese was blamed by several of the drivers for triggering the crash that killed Peterson and a few of them (including Andretti, Fittipaldi and Scheckter) threatened to boycott the US GP unless Patrese was banned. The race organiser agreed to this but Patrese threatened legal action on the grounds that his right to work was being infringed. Eventually, the Arrows team withdrew Patrese from the event under pressure from the race organiser and the FIA.

In truth, it was a 'kangaroo court' fueled by the drivers anger at the death of such a popular colleague. The accident was a combination of several factors including the starter showing the green light before the drivers further down the grid had lined up meaning that they had a rolling start compared to the standing start for the those at the front. This resulted in the pack coming much closer together than normal. Monza has always had a very wide main straight but a tight funnel going into the first chicane and there was a collision involving 10 cars. Patrese had a reputation as a bit of a 'hot head' at the start of his career and he was made a scapegoat.

He raced against Jos Verstappen, now racing against his son, I never realised that before!

Gille Villeneuve could have raced against Jacques for eight years. yikes
(1996 - 2003).

NB: Fernando could have raced both of them... at the same time
(2001 - 2003)

Taking things the other way, there are drivers on the current grid who weren't even born when Alonso started in F1. The current championship leader was born when Alonso was defending his first world title.
