£28k Family SUV - Is it an XC60 B5?

Afternoon all,

We’re in the market for a new family SUV which we plan to keep for 8-10yrs, main criteria is:
- £28k top of budget
- 40k miles max (long term keeper in mind)
- 2022 or newer
- Reliable with reasonable repair costs
- Auto
- Petrol
- 520litre or above boot
- Nothing too slow (200bhp or above)

Currently my head says to buy the RAV4 for the reliability, the Mercedes GLC interior looks far superior to most cars I’ve seen, the 250bhp B5 XC60 looks to be a good middle ground, does anyone have suggestions, thoughts or things to watch for in this category?

We went to test drive a 23 plate Sorento Edition yesterday - £31k (so a bit above your budget) gets all the toys you can possibly want plus 4 years remaining of the KIA warranty. It was a very nice place to sit and I was particularly impressed with the level of headroom the kids had in the boot seats, far better than our outgoing S Max.

Hopefully going for it today.

If you are looking at the Santa Fe / Sorento option, the Kia has a slightly nicer interior and feels a little more modern than the Hyundai.

Lexus RX450h is a great shout, the come in a 7-seat RXL version too which is within budget.

...and don't discount the Subaru Outback, on paper they are 166bhp however they feel a lot more powerful to drive, more like a lazy 200bhp V6.
