AUDI Q7 50 TDI 2021-23 buying advice

Ho anyone own one of these

Apparently the 50tdi ecu map causes hesitation when approaching roundabout about or coming to a stop and if need to pull away there a delay 2 secs before power comes back in.

Go & test drive one I've driven a few & not had this issue show up.

Ok otherwise they reliable? Apparently not but if has audi extended warranty then should cover faults

I have one and yes there is pause, after a while you don't notice it .If a need a quicker response I knock it into sport and it is far better.

Check the Audi warranty carefully. They have greater restrictions on extended warranty for engines over 2.0L. Not sure why, but you get less cover extending the warranty on anything over 2.0 than on smaller engined cars.

Coming from a bmw x5 extended warranty was 10/10

I have a 2019 Touareg and that has the hesitation thing you mention. I bugs the hell out of me, so I drive it in sport mode all the time. No problems in sport mode.

This might be completely irrelevant to the Q7 but since I understand these two cars are largely built on the same platform it might be useful info.

The hesitation is not that bad , but of the big suvs I have had xc90 , x5 and ff disco the Q7 never really hides its mass and the hesitation is just part but get it upto speed and it crushes long journeys, I have just done 3000 miles away in Europe in it and it was fab and 36 to the gallon

Wife had a 2020 50tdi Black Edition for 2 years.

There is a strange noticeable delay on initial step off, or going into a roundabout on a trailing throttle, then asking for acceleration. It could be quite disconcerting, enough to need to take it into account when making decisions.

It did annoy, but you get used to it after driving it a while. Until you drive something else, then go back to it.

To me it was a combination of throttle and gearbox lag, I could never quite put my finger on it exactly, it wasn’t turbo lag, it was a delay in the car reacting to the throttle, before boost had even been summoned. It’s something to do with the mapping to do with emissions programming, as I had the same engine and gearbox in a previous 2018 A8 258bhp that didn’t have the issue.

I complained to dealer, thought maybe hers had a problem, but they were well aware of the “issue” and confirmed it was a know thing since they went to the 282bhp tune. They let me drive their demo, and it was identical.

Replaced with a G05 40d X5, and it has much better engine/gearbox calibration.

The Q7 was better in the second and third row space,. maybe the interior felt slightly better quality.

The X5 drives much better.

Of all the cars that are similar age and sector we sell the Q7 seem to give us the most headache and come back with the most faults.

Thanks had the x5 g05 but second row was bit too small and third row could not use due to no access with 2 outer car seats.

Other than q7 only xc90 i think has same amount of space
