I've asked a similar question about ride comfort, but specifically, does adaptive suspension make a drastic difference to a 3 series m sport touring? Could it be described as a comfortable car?

nobody can answer that question for you as everyone's idea of what is "comfortable" is different. I might say its super comfortable but if i drive a Caterham 7 as my daily it would all be relative. You need to go drive one

That's the plan, but they seem few and far between

I had a ‘22 reg 320i M Sport with the adaptive suspension. I thought it rode very well indeed. Supple ride with decent body control.

I can't speak for the current generation cars, but I've got a 2018 340i M-Sport Touring with adaptive suspension. I would say it is quite comfortable in regular comfort mode, but gets a bit crashy in Sport. I think adaptive suspension in comfort mode is more comfortable than non adaptive M-Sport suspension.

I'm a luddite so my 3 Series have all been to old for that sort of fancy stuff. But my biggest concern about Adaptive would be the cost of parts if a damper started to leak.

I have an M340i with Adaptive Suspension. In Comfort it is just about acceptable in terms of ride quality - I never feel like the ride is poor but neither does it remind me of my 5 Series, which I think is fair enough. I think the tyre choice makes a big difference too.

I rarely, if ever, use Sport.

Indeed. £600 each for G2x adaptive dampers, hence why not many people tick the box. £2.4K in dampers just for people to hardly ever user Sport. What's the point.

Thank you all for your replies. I have decided against a 3 series. I test drove a 320i m sport, the engine was fine and it drove beautifully until we hit a road with a bad surface when the ride became just awful. As the roads are really bad in my area, it's not for me. To be perfectly honest, at my age I also found it less than easy getting into the car. Thank you all for your input.

After many years of BMWs my last M340i touring was my first with adaptive suspension and it’s a game changer… same on it’s replacement M3. 100% recommended
