Facet Fuel Pump Repair

I have a facet low pressure electric fuel pump. It packed up and I have replaced it, now I would like to try and fix the original and keep it as a spare. Does anyone have experience with repairing these? There is a supply wire that goes to the pump and the case earths. It is completely dead. Inside there are two poppet valves and it looks like a piston and spring that I am guessing works by an electromagnetic field moving the piston then the spring releasing it to spring back, making it pump. Currently it is totally dead, if anyone has managed to bring one back to life I would love to hear from them.

Get a multimeter and measure for resistance between the connections.

If the meter says OL or 0, it will not be fixable.

You are measuring across a coil which should give a resistance reading of maybe a few 10's to a few 100's of ohms, I don't know the specific reason, but somebody will.

If you do get a reasonable reading then it is likely to be seized & may be fixable.

Thanks, I will try that. I thought it would require a different approach because, (as far as I understand), it is not a motor with brushes etc. It works entirely on making and breaking a field to move the piston. I think it probably has had it, but I will check the resistance.

The coil operates a piston, which as it reaches the end of it's travel breaks the circuit, then springs back & keeps doing that to pump the fuel IIRC.

I have previously cleaned and loosened the piston in a facet that had stood for 14 years and it worked again. If it's the electrical side that'll be more tricky.

I've no experience with Facet pumps, but SU sell overhaul kits for their pumps and have rebuilt a couple like that. They did however also tell me to test the coil resistance before doing it, if there is no circuit, or no resistance, then the pump was end of life.

Have you tried contacting Facet directly instead? My experience is they're very helpful chappies!

I assume it's actually open circuit or infinite resistance? If it's 0 then you are famous for having invented the room temperature super conductor
