Help, my daughter has just bought a VW Hybrid and as dad I will be expected to know,
I know nothing about them, it’s a VW Multivan plug in hybrid.
I know I’m going to get asked,,,
Can she charge anywhere, will she need an app and the best one to get?
It only came with one charge cable that looks industrial,, can she get a 13amp adapter and charge at home?
And anything else you could pre empt that I’ll get asked, thanks.
I’m also not sure if this has regen?

Without bothering to do any research.

Yes you can buy a granny cable and charge from a 3 pin socket, will probably get about 1-1.5 kWh.

My Citroen C5X came with a 3.7 kWh charge capability as standard, and supposedly a 7.4 kWh option. My car seems to do the latter despite nothing in the documentation suggesting it has the higher capability.

So 2.5 kWh in 45 minutes would suggest c3.7kWh capability.

As an aside, here in France there are lots of local 7-21 kWh chargers, and almost no users, so charging away from home can be quite easy. I guess BEV owners probably can't be bothered with them.

Absolutely.

This is the one I bought a couple of months ago:

...and this was my second choice:

(I would go with 10metres or longer to avoid having to use an extension cable,
which can be a safety issue)

If it's the older version it looks like it's AC charging only, and limited to 16A single phase charging (about 3.6kW).

Newer ones (bigger battery) look to support 16A 3 phase (11kW) and also 50kW DC.

If you look at the charging port and it has no big fat pins at the bottom then it's AC only. It may well also be "missing" 2 pins which are the other 2 phases.

Public charging is unlikely to be worthwhile as the cost is more than running on petrol.

These kind of PHEVs work well if they're charged at home overnight (or during the day at work) and you're doing short journeys within the EV range (10-20 miles).

It’s a 8/24 car but all I have is a cropped image of the charge lead.

I have a Santa Fe with a 13.8kWh battery. I use the granny 3 pin charger. Set it to 10a charge and it takes about 6 hours. It never fully runs out and has some self charging capability.
