Hi all, I am thinking about purchasing one of these and was just after some opinions and thoughts on my shortlist please. I was also looking at the Seamaster 300m and tried on in in store, but was left quite disappointed at the quality of the bezel - my Oris Aquis has a better quality action, very strange as I had a 300m ceramic a few years ago and the bezel action was much better.

Anyway, I've always wanted a Speedmaster and love the whole moon nonsense, but 'everyone' has got a Speedy pro, (I would go for the sapphire sandwich), however I might like to go a little different maybe. I love the look of the '57 - the one that started it all and is my current front-runner, and the moon phase is the one watch in the last 10 years or so that made me go 'wow - I would love one of those one day.' I would be buying second hand, so although they are differing prices that isn't a consideration in my choice. What are everyone's thoughts?

Speedmaster Professional [42mm]

Pros: Classic design, history, perfect size, lovely exhibition case back
Cons: Lots of people have one, no date.

Speedmaster Moonphase [44.25mm]

Pros: Beautiful dial, amazing moonphase complication, excellent movement, ceramic bezel.
Cons: Quite large, heavy.

Speedmaster '57 [40.5mm]

Pros: Lovely vintage looks, broad arrow hands, elegant, not the obvious choice, slimmer profile, date.
Cons: Date complication with manual wind and no quick set function could be a pain.

The 57 is fabulous cloud9

That would absolutely be my choice unless you have very big wrists and need the larger case.

From those I would go for the Speedmaster Professional.

I went for a 2024 FOIS and love it. I added a clear case back last week and I can’t stop looking at it.

There very nice watches there.

For me it would be Pro, 57 then Moonphase

I have a Pro and Seamaster 300.

I think the Speedmaster wears a little better for everyday use, being a wee bit slimmer.

The bezel on my Seamaster was a little stiff when new but 12 months down the line its worn in nicely

Same for me. Pro first as my tired old eyes struggle to see the date without a cyclops though!"

Another vote for the 57 out of the three - a Speedmaster would be first on my list if I ever received a windfall!

If you like the vintage look of the 57’ I would definitely recommend the FOIS. In fact I am seriously considering trading my pro for one.

Thanks all, I think probably if I went to Omega and tried them all on and see which one speaks to me most, although I feel a bit tossy doing that without intention of buying from them, but hey. I love the Speedy pro as I've always wanted one and it's the 'one' to get, the moonphase it's lovely and I'm a bit obsessed with moon things and also I've got a big thing for blue dial watches, but it's big. The '57 is the offbeat choice but I'm loving the vintage looks and could be an excellent daily wearer.

I have the blue moonphase, picked it up recently of a bit over £5k. I ever so slightly prefer the DSOTM black that I picked up this week for just over £6k.

If you've loved the Moonphase for so long, its the watch you should go for. My only advice would be a try on the Moonphase first ... I'd hankered after a Speedy pro for years and as close to the orginal as possible (so the Hesalite with steel back 13.5mm case thickness) but never tried one on ... I bought it and just couldn't get on with it ... it just didn't sit right on my wrist despite changing straps.

I then tried on the Speedy racing with a thicker 15mm x 44.25mm case (and sandwich) and it felt great so bought one of those to replace my pro. The moonphase is almost 17mm so a bit of a beast ... looks stunning in blue.

I really liked the FOIS. The specs are just perfect, and the bracelet is really nice too.

But when trying it on I just found the hands sometimes hard to read, it's not the most legible watch for some reason.

But I agree, if I were to get a Speedmaster it would be something that didn't look like everyone else's. Either the '57 above or one of these.

When I bought my Schumacher in 2015 I wanted a speedy but something a bit different. Have never regretted it.

Speedmaster Professional if you only plan on having one Speedy in your collection.

It dresses up and down very easily through strap changes, and seemingly works with most colours out there.

I also wouldn't worry about it being common. I live in a city and I visit London frequently. I've only ever seen a single other Speedmaster Professional on somebody's wrist. I've seen far more Submariners and GMT Masters out in the wild.

I had the choice of the Pro and the FOIS.

I went for the Pro, should have gone with the FOIS.. but.. I do love my Pro.

A change of strap makes a huge difference. Had it on a Nato this weekend for beers, then switched the strap to match my suit for a wedding the next day.

Saw a lot of GMT's and Sub's, a few Navitimers and Superoceans, no other Speedy's

I wandered in to the Omega boutique in The Royal Exchange back in 2014 and left with this one.
It’s not on the bi-metal strap so not as in yer face as some, not a great picture but I love the dial.

Speaking as a speedy pro owner, "everyone" has a pro, because they're lovely watches!

The 57 would be out for me because of the hands; the hands on the pro are so simple and balanced.

But I'd go for the moonphase, simply because I like that complication and it would round up the Apollo missions connection for me.
