Coming back from a wedding in a few weeks near to Reims and after planned to stop off for 3 nights in Reims and 2 nights in Bologne-sur-mer. I can cancel the accomodation easily enough so open to suggestions. Must be on route to Calais from Reims though.

Reims seems to be a really nice place. Not sure if 3 days is to much though any day trips? Luxembourg worth a day trip?

Bolougne sur mer looks a little bit boring but struggled to find anywhere else at the time. Is there much there to do for 2 nights? Is it a nice place?

Will be travelling with wife and 2 year old twins.

We stopped off to wander around Arras last October and found a great Chinese restaurant off one of the squares. Also visited Vimy Ridge and the Canadian memorial.

It is indeed, but it’s not really on the route from Reims to Calais is it?

On the same basis I’d recommend Honfleur but I don’t think the OP is looking for that sort of deviation.

Lots of WW1 places, if it's your thang, Albert, Bapaume, Arras, Lens. Cambrai.

Fair enough I missed the "must"

Reims is quite nice - great cathedral and a fair amount to do. There are some nice boutique hotels in the area too.

But to be honest, I find the Reims to Calais area a bit of a dead zone and I tend to zoom to Calais rather than linger.

An hour south (wrong way - but I'd do it) is Troyes. Great city - an ancient centre packed with restaurants.

A snap from earlier in the summer. smile

Reims is stunning and for a bit of petrol-head reminiscence the old F1 paddock on the old F1 start-finish straight is still there.

Went there when doing "scumball" some years ago, it was far too tempting to drop off my co-pilot & do a "fly-by".

Reims historic market hall in (Halles du Boulingrin) is worth a quick visit - it's in the city centre & there's a champagne bar in there, also a pub opposite that sells Brewpoint's beer. Champagne houses for the tours if you've time.

Racetrack on the way out for the obligatory picture.

Also agree on Le Touquet, once your at the coast on the way up to Calais.

Seconded, and the Hotel Kyriad - ten minutes walk from the picture above - has secure underground parking (book in advance)

I’ll give a shout out to this place in Fismes: https://www.museefrance40v.fr/ a reasonable collection of military vehicles.

We stopped in there three years ago on the way back from Reims to Calais. Nice little museum and meant that we took a slightly different route back than the standard one. Was a good place to stop for an hour or two.

Reims is lovely, obviously factor in a champagne cellar tour or 3.

For a stop off, last time we did that, we had 2 nights in Ypres. Fabulous experience, history and a really nice town, and much as you think it would be not on the way, it added less than 20 miles to the direct journey.

Another vote for the Kyriad in Troyes. There used to be a good takeaway pizza place next door if you overindulged in too many Grimbergen’s on the afternoon. Don’t ask me how I know biglaugh
