Seems to be a reasonable strategy for the brand, let's hope that they can afford it.

'Rather than plug-ins, the automaker is expected to lean on 48-volt mild-hybrid systems that improve efficiency, support electrically assisted turbochargers, power auxiliary functions, and potentially allow limited engine-off running in certain conditions.'

Plug-in hybrids are popular with business car users for taxation reasons and with taxi drivers to avoid congestion charges.
Many never bother with the plug-in, but always have to drive around, lugging an extra 17 stone passsenger (the battery).
So many of those cars are later seen at auctions, with the plug-in cable still in its unopened plastic bag.

I have experience with the Mercedes-Benz 48-volt mild-hybrid system. The main delight is engine start, because there is no clanking of a starter motor. Silently and smoothly, the engine just begins running, as the 48-volt motor directly rotates the crankshaft.
As for the engine-off running, that is where the car can coast with engine off going down hills. Initially I used that, but then found out there can be stress in the transmission, every time at the moment the engine restarts. By never using Eco-Mode, that stops the glide-feature working.

The Mercedes-Benz 48-volt motor is bolted between the engine and transmission. That made me wonder about Aston Martin's preferred front mid-engine and rear transaxle layout, to achieve the best weight distribution.
I see that the AMG GT 43 and 53 sports cars (which have the mild-hybrid system) do not have rear transaxles, unlike the other GT models. Their 9 speed automatic transmission fits directly to the back of the mild-hybrid motor, in the front of the vehicle.

Thanks for sharing Christof!

This article never reached me.. I'll repost in in the AML thread as it has some questionable info about future development.

The article posted is almost two weeks old, and therefore was published before the announcement of yesterday’s cash injection. Maybe AH knew it was coming, but it is just another one of several articles I’ve read recently where AH has been quoted discussing future plans. Let’s wait and see what they say next Wednesday. BRM.

Thanks Christof.

I was wondering how long it would take for the doom squad to jump threads to rain all over this nice positive article. Too much positivity. Outrageous, that’s not allowed. Harumph.
