Hi all

Have seen a few of these around and thinking they look worth a punt for around £10k. The big risk is the battery giving up I guess. Servicing on these is presumably minimal still or not?

Anyone have any experience of higher mileage EVs and whether they've been ok or gone pop. I'll either get it and keep it for years (until it dies), or else keep it for a year or two until my new limited company has sufficient trading history for a company lease.

Interested to hear all your thoughts.
TIA

You can get a newer one with fewer miles that still has 2 years and 20k miles of battery warranty remaining for the same price.

Yes, I saw that black one - that's top of my hit list currently...

Have you done an insurance quote? They seem to have settled a bit but when I looked I was getting bonkers (to me) quotes and using comparison sites had to go a fair way up in price until I got to companies I'd heard of.

Many are waiting to see how the markets take used EVs en-masse as batteries seem to be have improved. To me it's a punt too far with I pace and really binary, you're lucky and get a few years or it's a paperweight and you're trying to maximise scrap value. They are a 1st generation tech, so be wary. My local jlr always has a collection in the corner of their lot presumably under repair

10k sounds rich, maybe at 6k they become a genuine punt. Moon mileage Tesla's seem to retain some value as they're trusted

How many left worth exploring e.g. ipace 8.3k registered in 2020, licensed and sorn 7.6k, so 10% have either scrapped through mechanical failure or maybe accidents??

The I-Pace owner I know mentioned his car's been limited to 90% charge capacity now via an update. I'm unclear whether Jaguar have any intention to perform a fix which would allow this to be restored to 100% for affected cars, or not.
https://www.reddit.com/r/ipace/comments/1rzxg38/th...

AIUI this is distinct from the 72% limit applied to cars where a battery fault has been detected, which is temporary until the dealership replaced the affected module.

For me the EV is a daily that's meant to be low-hassle, hence swerving the Jag.

Barge pole. Even if the car looks ok can you really have any faith in the dealer network (judging by anecdotes on here)?

Cheap EV = Nissan Leaf, surely?

I looked at the I pace (on internet - which I realise is not a fantastic) never got as far as test driving etc.

The limited battery range put me off and the numerous electrical gremlins mentioned on forums would mean a ferry journey to get fixed (no dealers locally). This seemed to particularly affect early models which at the time I was looking at.

So I have waited and gone for a Renault instead.....

Leaf is a great choice for cheap reliable short-range motoring. But i-Pace is 400hp, drives beautifully and has a 90kWh battery. And some well-established big faults. Hard to compare them really.

Just a general remark but in my experience some early EVs can be a bit of a pain , we had an early mini electric and my sis in law a Etron Both had issues that the main dealers struggled with and although my local indie garages are good I think they would find it hard to sort these cars

Do EVs have a decent scrap value compared to ICE cars?

I thought the photo above may be AI so I did a check.

The bottom car's registration is now on a Polestar 4 since May 2025. The middle one has gone (presumable scrap) but the 3rd one up (R9 ***) is now on an F-Pace Hybrid since June 2024, owner not put off the marque. smile Unless that IS the hybrid and it wasn't scrapped. scratchchin

I had one of the first iPaces in the UK on a 19 plate.

It was a lovely drive. Quiet, smooth and quick. Better ride than my MY22 model 3.

But it had one huge flaw. The range was terrible. In winter I was lucky to get 120-130 miles if it was below 0c.

In summer closer to 200 if you were doing 65 ish on the motorway.

Would I have one for £10k? Maybe. Its a lot of car for that price and I was mostly doing short runs.

I think a heat pump model 3 standard range would be worth the small premium though - if you could live with the limited boot opening and RWD / non SUV.
If you had a bit more £2-3k more you could get a similar miles Long Range.

Wow, thanks for all the replies people. I actually went off the idea, mainly because Mrs B wasn't comfortable with an older EV on a mileage like that and it looks like she was right. It was going to be a car for her, so my 400bhp man maths was irrelevant as it turns out (thankfully).

We considered a RR Evoque (just because she likes them even though I was put off by LR reliability (oh the irony...), but when we went to look at one, she felt it wasn't the luxury brand she was expecting.

Instead we've bought a low mileage ID3 on a 72 plate. V similar to the ID4 company lease it's replacing, size not that dissimilar actually and being newer tech (and VW) I have a little more faith that it'll do what it's supposed to for the next couple of years until we can get into something better/bigger/faster (delete as required!!!)

As someone who has owned an IPace and an ID3, you made the right choice.

If you buy one with two years battery warranty, what actually happens to the car when the battery has failed?
Is it a scrap car or can you get all new batteries.
