I live currently in an apartment complex, a kind of 4 plan ground and 1st floor deal with centrally located water and waste pipes.
Somebody has decided to fit a water pump to boost pressure.
Firstly is this allowed initially?
Secondly it is very loud and is used a lot, I have complained to the leasehold company who have just said they can fit one it seems, and have passed a complaint to the landlord about the noise.
It is like a mechanical groan, bloody awful.
Is there any other route I could use to complain here? Surely this is a little unfair to all flats as it boosts their pressure and buggers up everyone else's when in use, incredibly selfish, plus the noise issue? We all have to sort of share stuff in a complex like this.

They can be very noisy. They should be installed to try to avoid coupling their vibration to the rest of the pipework and the fabric of the building.
The fact that they feel they need a pump in the first place and, even more so, that it seems to reduce flow to the rest of the building when it's running strongly suggests the water supply in the building itself is quite seriously inadequate. Pumps are really just workarounds for problems further up stream. They can be entirely sensible workarounds, but it is generally better to see if the underlying problem can be fixed.

Guess it depends on what pump has been fitted.
