When we got out countryman e 2 years ago I was under the impression that it was an optional extra to have the foot gesture operating tailgate.
Move on a year and a half as a joke to my daughter it waggled my foot in the appropriate area and to my surprise the indicators flashed and the hatch opened. Now it doesn’t do this every time so when it went in for service this morning I asked about it. They didn’t seam partially interested but I asked again on the way out and the went to check if the car was supposed to have this feature. If it wasn’t then fair enough, a bit of a win but if it wasn’t then fair then they need to make it work every time.
It doesn’t have the feature and was an £1100 extra.
I am now wondering is all the gear installed in ever car and only turned at the computer off on models that are not supposed to have it as standard?
For the rest of you could this be switched on via an I’d tool?

Does it have comfort access (keyless entry) on the doors?

Keyless entry but the dealer said it doesn’t have gesture operated hatchback.
Just wondered if they had messed up or are they charging £1100 to switch on something that’s already there.

I am guessing there is a sensor for it in the bumper pointing at the floor, so if youn have the key on your person & do the wiggle in the right place it should work.

That being the case 2 things to check out.

Find the sensor & check it is clean.

Try to see if there are "blind spots" where the "key present" sensor isn't in range.

You mean the feature is not listed on the cars build sheet but you discovered that it actually does have it.

My bought used 2024 Skoda Karoq has the feature. Won't work if anything within approx a metre of the rear of the car. I park on our drive less than a metre from the garage so won't work there. Also won't work if parked in a line of cars. It's a bit hit & miss whether it works in what should be ideal situations. I might report it at the service as it'll still be under warranty, but many owners report it's intermittent.

Touching the underside of the hatch handle causes the lid to open fully & there is a button to close it. It's enough for me.

I assume you have therefore checked the build WRT an online VIN checker.

I believe it’s a feature of keyless entry. Best to google a catalogue for that model year and check. It won’t be an error on the build and it’s not a built in feature that can be coded.

Google "mini vin checker" there are lots for free (some paid scammers, so avoid those) and you will get a list of everything fitted at the factory.

Thanks for the help guys. It’s probably meant to be there just with the dealer saying is shouldn’t had me wondering.
It seams to me that they really don’t know what they are selling of just can’t be bothered.
The parking assist is another matter 🙄

You need to get a vin decoder that is the only way to see what spec the car had when it was manufactured. If you cant find a free one use this £6.50
Excellent way of getting all information on spec and work that has been done by any mini dealer. Bought otn occasions when I considering mini I might buy - also shows id any items been deleted as they were during chip shortages. If comfort access shows on it but as deleted could lead to an interesting conversation about car not being as described(if you still have add) and a very cheap afterfit.
Dealers are really sloppy about this looked at many countryman that have twin rear doors(on clubman only)

Search for mini service history records -link was to my account
