1955 Chevrolet Bel Air - Rally Prepared
Discussion
Researching the history of the vehicle, I have found the following which may help:
This 1955 Chevrolet Bel-Air two-door sedan was purchased by the previous owner in 2018 and modified for rally driving with work including installation of a 350ci V8 crate engine, a Tremec six-speed manual transmission, Global West front control arms, and Wilwood front disc brakes as well as a roll bar, rally timing equipment, and Corbeau seats and harnesses. The car was shipped to India and completed the 2018 Himalayan Challenge rally in India and Nepal, after which it was returned to the US. Finished in yellow and white with #15 rally livery, it is also equipped with Classic Instruments gauges, a trunk-mounted air compressor and fuel cell, an aluminum radiator, a Holley carburetor, dash-mounted switch gear, and 16″ steel wheels. This modified Bel Air sedan was then sold by the seller in California to a new owner in Montana. I then bought the car and imported it from the USA with all clearances done in September 2025.
Since its arrival, I have had work done to the front suspension, replaced the battery and faulty rally board, installed thermostatic control for the cooling fan and replaced the handbrake.
The 350ci V8 crate engine was installed in 2018 and features an aluminum intake manifold, a Holley four-barrel carburetor, and finned Corvette valve covers. Additional modifications include an aluminum radiator, an electric cooling fan, a 100-amp alternator, and an electric fuel pump. Unfortunately, I do not have the actual build specification other than what is listed.
The car starts on the turn of the key, runs powerfully and smoothly and it quite happy sitting at 70 mph on the motorway or negotiating the country roads of Dorset. No issues with the carburetor and no other works required.
