Silverstone BRDC Classic
Discussion
Not sure if this is in the right section, but:
We’ve been to the Silverstone Festival for the past couple of years. It was ‘OK’, but a bit of a come down after FoS (wasn’t expecting it to compare, but still).
Opinions on this year’s equivalent (in terms of grids) - the BRDC Classic.
Seems like the same F1 and Endurance Legends stuff, with a couple more races and not much more? Is that a fair summary or did I miss something?
We like walking around in the pits, so will probably attend for that, but, as with the FoS after 3 years, I’m getting the feeling we’ve already been there and done that, and it’s a bit like Groundhog Day. Even last year the much vaunted Group C Race was a joke. Possibly with even less this year e.g. no one-off displays like last years 75 years of F1?

I think you need to take the price of tickets for this year's Silverstone BRDC Classic into account, compared to a Goodwood event.
There is already a thread for this event on PH in the Events & Meetings section, but no recent posts:

As a result of buying a club two for one deal, I have a spare weekend ticket for the Silverstone BRDC classic meeting.
I paid £65 for the two weekend tickets so face value of one would be £32.50
(Weekend price from Silverstone is £65. Friday is £20, Saturday and Sunday are £40 each )
Ticketing is digital so you would need to have the Silverstone ticketing app to receive the tickets.

OP or anyone else going would you be able to come back after the event and give a review? I'm thinking of going next year instead of FOS as it's loads cheaper and closer and so would be interested in hearing people's thoughts.
I'm a big F1 fan so seeing the older F1 cars on track would be great even if they are before I got into the sport in the early 2000's.

There will be no comparison with FoS. Unless you’re almost exclusively into Cosworth powered F1 cars you’ll be left feeling pretty sad at missing FoS.I'm a big F1 fan so seeing the older F1 cars on track would be great even if they are before I got into the sport in the early 2000's.
I still have a couple of spare tickets for the Silverstone BRDC classic meeting.
Friday and Sunday tickets available. (Will take £15 for Sunday or £20 for the pair)

Quite- and while I enjoy 'Formula DFV ' it's far from the highlight for me . What I most enjoy includes Cobra/E Type , GT40 /T70 , Mustang /Lotus Cortina races and an enormous field of scrapping FJs.
I'll be there early tomorrow morning and very much looking forward to it - with Goodwood Members' Meeting the Classic is one of the highlights of my motrsport year.

I'm taking 20 guests as a social event for our charity - Spinal Track. All of our guests are in wheelchairs, so not having to get across to The Wing is a big positive. It's all based in the National paddock now if you didn't know.
I wasn't a huge fan of what the Classic became, so I'm happy for this new event to happen and to give CarFest the "family event" side of it.

A lovely day, but some very odd grandstand decisions.
Only one stand open from Woodcote to Becketts, nothing open at Woodcote at all and only Copse open and completely rammed, will never understand this gormless companies decisions about this stuff.
3,yes THREE stands open on Wellington straight, makes no sense whatsoever considering most traffic is coming into the venue at Woodcote.
Some great racing, fairly small grids so far in some classes, an hour long race for 15 cars is a joke, but much better to come.

I also gather you could not get around the whole track by foot, I read elsewhere a guy nearly got trapped inbetween fences as he was walking around unaware.
Pringle seems to want to do everything at the bare minimum cost, which I do understand from a business point of view, but this place just always makes you feel unwelcome and an obstruction or a hindrance rather than a guest. Some people can ignore this I guess but it leaves a sour taste at times.
Was nice to be able to get around the paddock and a smaller meeting meant it was all very close and easy to get around.
But the lack of stands in use for only one reason, cost, is poor, most people come in near Copse and there was one stand open in that area, it was full most of the day, I mean cmon. Do we really need 6 blokes standing there doing sod all all day? Use 3 and open one other section of the stands at Woodcote.
I guess there must be reasons for it, but the day ended up in a very silly way, last race was done at about 7.15. and the guys on the gate at Copse had done a runner, meaning everyone who came in there had a closed gate and no idea where to go, you had to walk all the way down to the entry at the old main car park and walk through the industrial estate.
It is these little touches, things that let this place down so so much.
The racing was great, the track itself is fine, and the staff I spoke to were fine too. But the venue itself leaves a whole lot to be desired and you know they dont give a toss at all.
Will add some good stuff. Hearing a BRM V12 though very slowly driven was lovely, listening to a legend like Soper heel and toeing into bends like he did 30 years ago was awesome too, the vintage cars were superb, watching some of the guys in all sorts of stuff trying to take Copse quicker and quicker was entertaining aswell.

We came in at the main entrance, buying tickets means going to someone in an office now, we didn’t buy them in advance as it was a last minute thing. It really needs to be at a different circuit, both brands and donington would make better venues. Other than going to the moto gp I cannot see any other reason to watch anything else there. Walking through the pits was nice but the only highlight
Biggest disappointment was the Rouse Sierra getting a puncture
