No, not standing near a dead body, or nearly dying through illness or operation going wrong.

Have you done something or had something happen that you think a split second either way and it would have been curtains?

Not that it has happened to me, but for example climbing out from under a car and as you get up the axle stands collapse.

Come on, lets hear your stories, good, bad or humourous.

Yup got out of bed, when i was 9, in the middle of the night to get a glass of water, was walking out of the door and the book shelves above my bed collasped, would've been squished for certain.

Also nearly died when sleep walking across a road in the middle of the night.

As a kid, I caught blood poisoning, and by the time I got to hospital, the nurse said that another 2 or 3 hours would have seen me well and truly in the kakaa!!

When I was in 6th form, I used to take pictures of a band a teacher of mine used to be in. we were in a theatre and I was taking photos from front of stage, leaning over. I took my shot and leaned back, only for a rather large pyro to explode where a few seconds earlier, my head was.

Apart from that, I've been lucky

Not really what you asked for but for about two seconds once I was absolutely convinced I was about to ski over a cliff. Was on a school trip and had been moved into the top group with people that were way too good for me. They all came to a stop at the edge of a 'cliff', I knew I wasn't going to be able to stop in time and went straight through them. Luckily it was just a blind summit. Life didn't flash or aything mind just went blank. I didn't scream for help or anything thankfully, that would have looked funny.

I took the N1 nightbus home once in London.

Does that count?

.....well I felt like I was going to be raped, stabbed, mugged, vomitted on, abused, etc for most of the journey.

Once as a young commercial pilot I had taken off at night in a rocky desert area, when the an oil pipe let go dumping black oil onto the windscreen of the Cessna 210. TRaining took over and I flew the worlds lowest and tightest circuit hoping the engine would last. Vision was fun with a 2 inch area I could see out of the side window as the oil was everywhere

Landing blind at night into rocky terrain isnt an option. At least without the oil you can switch the landing light off if you dont like what you see when doing an off-airport emergency landing with a dead engine.

Luckily she kept on purring as we got on the ground and it was only then my knees starting getting weak as I realized how close that was.

Yup. I nearly died you know.......

Apart from that I'm near death most days as I work for a Railway engineering company and I'm often by the trackside with trains whistling past my head. One wrong move and I'm curtains.

I also shared a room with Mel on the way back from Le Mans.....that was much scarier.....

As a rookie student driver I inadvertently went straight over a junction after dark when I should have given way. Saw lights and heard a screech of brakes and a car just missed me, passing behind. Had I been a second later, it would have been a VERY bad start to my driving career in every respect.

So if my average speed had been 0.1mph slower... it doesn't bear thinking about.

Yes, drove to Durham cricket ground up the A1 for a meeting felt fine. stopped and got out of car and collapsed on floor - turned out to be meningitis.

thought it was truly all over in the hosp.

shudder to think what might have happened had I still been driving.

was run over too when i was 9.
You're lucky to be ok Did the accident when you were 9 leave you with any serious injuries?

I thought I had meningitus once, but it turned out to be alcohol poisoning. Took me 5 days to get better. Been down that road (with the trusty satnav of youth) a few times

Funny you should say that. I was under a car which was on a jack, when I heard this crunching sound from the jacking point and the car moved... So did I, with a rapidity I still find hard to credit. Bruce Lee couldn't have got out from under that car quicker than I did.

Same here, but the other way around. I'd just bought my origin B2, recently started driving, turned onto a road and was coasting at 27mph... and was watching the b2, holding the speed at 27ish (in a 30) when a car who was supposed to give way didnt, and flew out of a blind junction (in a 30 zone) doing 60+ just ahead of me - I breaked heavily and just managed to avoid him. Was quite shaken up at the time.
