This summer we'll ferry from Portsmouth to St Malo; then take the brief drive across Brittany to stay in Baden; just outside Vannes.
Any top tips from those who have been before? The Gulf looks fascinating; although i am more of a land animal than a seafarer.

Not bothered about haute cuisine; do like a bit of history; will probably try and get some long walks in - whilst the kids entertain themselves on the Eurocamp waterslides...

Thanks in advance if anyone has any pointers!

It's a nice area, we have stayed there multiple times and regularly visited Vannes.

But I'll try to remember to reply in more detail later rather than when I am having a quick look at work.

Get yourself along to Maison Larnicol and buy some Kouginets to have with your morning coffee.

Then go back there and buy some more.

I've always wanted to go and see the U-boat pens at Saint Nazaire, not sure if that's your thing or not? About an hour from Vannes.

Went to Vannes almost by accident once when we were staying further east. Lovely place to have a wander with some great shops/eateries and nice harbour/marina. Also had a drive out to (checks map) Penvins - remember the whole area being very, very nice and somewhere I'd go back to.

Carnac is great (ok, the town's typical tourist town...). Massive field of standing stones and a tidal island in the bay next door. Trinite sur Mer is a lovely harbour with great seafood and loads of starfish when we were there.

Was down that way in 2025, some good stuff:

On the D781, just past the Pont Lorois, a riverside restaurant, Sous L'Pont, very good

North of Erdeven, amazing Intermarche, probably the best seafood counter ever!

Erdeven, Hotel la Maison des Dunes, very pleasant

Arradon, Ti Laouen chambres d'hote, very pleasant

Arradon, restaurant L'Abri Cotiere, was okay

Ile aux Moines, La Cabane du Trec'h, oysters, very good

Larmor Baden, L'eskal, bar/brasserie, vey good

Other bars and restaurants, ranging from average tourist spots to very good

Vannes was a very pleasant town, but mooching around the lagoon suited us just fine, although swimbo seemed to be a mosquito attractor hehe
