How many different Funfairs are there in the UK,i remember 'Stevens' of Chertsey and 'Walls' of Hook although as a boy the Yellow & Orange of 'Stevens'Fun fair always stood out and a future hobby once ive finished my car is to build a model Funfair based on thier livery(Anorak status).
Ive found a few links during my research and would be grateful of any old photographs.

Hello ZR1, there are many many different fun fairs in the UK still, and many many different travelling families and showmen. People like Carters do fun fairs for a hobby and aren't linked to historical travelling families. They do a very good job and their stuff is actually more tidy than most travelling fun fair stuff.
My dad is absolutely nutty on fairs and chases them all around the country. The biggest fair at the moment is currently in Hull, you have just missed the Nottingham Goose Fair. The fair then moves on to Loughborough and it sort of quietens down for the winter period. Next big one my dad visits (apart from the Christmas and new year fairs, big one in Scotland on new years day I think) is Kings Lynn Mart in Feb.
If you want to know anything about the fairs then just let me know, my dad knows so much about them its scary, he has been chasing them since he was a nipper though! I will ask him about fairs like Carters etc for you and see what he says.
Cheerio!

Thanks FR ,ime mainly interested in anything 'Stevens' and think they were based in Chertsey although ive found some imformation that also points towards Feltham.
I know their livery was mainly Yellow and Orange with white wall tyres and they mainly used AEC Lorries and tractor units, they used to go as far down as Eastliegh just outside Southampton and i once heard 'Hearsay' that the only reason they maintained going down that far was because the owners daughter was born on a fair visit there,a bit of info for your father.
Its not that ime just into Fun fairs but i also enjoy model making and would like something more challenging than an average kit, thanks for your help.

ZR1, an update for you from dad.
Stevens apparently more recently ran old Volvos and were a yellow colour.
One of the Stevens' developed a ride called the Sizzler Twist, you may know of it. He was called Perrin Stevens and unfortunately died in a tragic accident. The family still travels.
www.funfairs.ndirect.co.uk/transportpages/stevenstrans.html - some black and white picks.
www.stevens-funfair.com/ - their own site, you may have seen this.
Hope this helps, cheerio FunkyR.

Thanks for that Funky, does your Father know the route taken by Stevens Funfair during its summer outings as there might be more photos hiding in town archives.
I worked on both Stevens and Walls funfairs in my holidays and found that the stevens AEC's were like your father said predominately yellow with orange a white.
They probably stopped using AEC's and turned to volvos when the AEC factory closed in the early Eighties IIRC.
