Talk me out of an r230 sl55

Looking for a nice gt capable car, I’ve been looking around at granturismos, trying to find an lc500 etc, then the other day a sl55 rumbled past.
Where’s the most upto date guide? I think I want a 2005 one so pre mega road tax, is the f1 pack really worth the extra? Any good forums to join?

The engine is epic and open to pulley ungrades but ABC needs a good looking at. 350 were on springs but 500 and 55 are ABC. There is a readers cars on a 500 where the owner pulls apart the ABC.
I think there are issues with boot seals and electrics but that's a 230 issue not specifically a 55 one.

I'd love one. Having had an e55 that engine in a lighter car would be great. Probably an sl350 would give you 90% of the fun but that's not the point.
I imagine a 55 was a £100k car new so has the ability to cost you a fortune!

The High Peak Autos youtube fella had/has one. There may be some ownership experience videos there.
Iain Tyrrell from Tyrrells Classic Workshop has an SL500 and did a nice video where he talked about the detail of it and things he'd had to do... much of it I'm sure would apply to the SL55.

I've had an R230 SL500 fro new in 2003.
It is in the AZ desert so come of the issues are more heat related, but generally has been good.
Did the ABC refresh before it became a problem. Officially sealed for life but the dealer will do a refresh. Two sets of boot struts- they weaken over time. Dash buttons at top of dash have gotten soft and sticky; carpets wearing and cannot get an OEM replacement. Wiring harness replaced though this was probably due to being stored in extreme hear six month a year. Do not have info in the SL55 engine, though the regular SL500 has been fine....
