Just got back from 5 days in County Kerry. We flew from Manchester to Kerry airport (1 hour).

Rented a small cottage in Tiernaboul just outside Killarney.

We were hoping to land on Skellig Michael (of Star Wars fame), but unfortunately it was too rough. Still had a decent boat trip out there. Also a RIB wildlife tour of the Blasket Islands from Dingle. Went to Luke Skywalker’s meditation rock (from the Last Jedi), and also climbed Torc mountain.

We usually go to Pembrokeshire, and have been to Northumberland, Cornwall and Unst for similar ‘outdoor’ type holidays.

What really stood out for me (apart from the incredible scenery) was how immaculate the place was. Maybe it was just where we went, but pretty much every house we saw - even on the remotest satnav roads - looked almost like they’d just been re-furbished. In other places like this there are usually plenty of very run-down areas and houses. I did a bit of Googling and was surprised to learn the area had one of the highest GDPs in Europe, although disposable income is less than average.

Driving was a pleasure, did quite a few hours in the hire car, and it was rare to look in the mirror and see another car. Everyone seemed very considerate and friendly.

For some reason it was completely different from what I expected, in a good way (apart from the weather, which ranged from horizontal rain to burning sun).

I’m pretty sure we will go back for another attempt at Skellig Michael.

Anyone else on here a fan of County Kerry?
