The Barfleur is being sold and the route ceasing.

It's a really nice ferry and such a shame.

We'll need to use Portsmouth to Caen now which adds an Hour on this side from bournemouth.

We only took this route once on the way down to the Dordogne in 2007, returning via Caen. I can’t of been very impressed as we never used this route again. As I recall the ship was quite basic.

Great holiday and we’ve returned to the Dordogne many times since.

Living in Bath and having family in Normandy, that's always been my go-to option so from a selfish point of view I'll miss it. Four hours to cross rather than six from Portsmouth was always a bonus.

Would be great for the area if another operator stepped in but suspect that's unlikely.

I believe Portsmouth Le Havre is chopped as well which only leaves Caen. I rather suspect that'll get pulled as well soon.

Curious as to where this information is coming from - I'm a Club Voyage member and usually get to know these things first and I've had nothing so far.

Looking at the booking timetable, I'm able to book both routes well more than 12 months hence.

Caen if you are going down to Brittany will be 30 mins less than going up the nose of Cherbourg.

TBH an hour or so is never a problem for me.

Three sailings a day from Portsmouth too makes it stomachable.

It's a shame with Poole, however when travelling on it and there never being full loads and very little freight I always wondered how it was sustainable.

Oh goodness! Our very first trip to France was Poole - Cherbourg half a lifetime away, then we discovered how much easier Portsmouth was to get to.

No doubt BBC verify will be onto this, but yes, I can also book crossings for next June.

Having said that Brittany Ferries has previous when it comes to advance bookings. I booked Portsmouth / St Malo in 2024 and 5 months later was booked on Poole Caen. Sort of ruined our plans for the afternoon / evening in St Malo.
