Heading there with a few friends in early July

Which of the Beer gardens are worth a visit? From a nightlife point of view, what is the best area (nightclub / late bars etc)?

Thanks

Beer gardens:

Augustiner-Keller - short walk from Hauptbahnhof (main station)

Biergarten am Chinesischen Turm - in the English garden. En route stop at the surfing river for some free entertainment.

Otherwise Marienplatz is the 'centre', where you'll find the Hofbrauhaus.

The University district has some decent bars if you want to get out the main tourist area.
I also really enjoy the Schwabing district.

BMW Welt is easy to get to and worth the visit.

If you're not familiar with Bavarian hospitality, especially in high season, just mentally prepare for the rudeness!

Also ensure you have some cash with you. They're still a bit weird sometimes about card in smaller places and also the pretzels in Hofbrauhaus can only be purchased with cash!

You can take a train direct from the airport easy enough, however may be easier to share a cab if there's a few of you.

Feel free to ask any more questions.

Yes, I was going to grab some euros to take.

Dress code in the evening for getting into nicer bars / clubs?

I guess what you'd wear in London or similar.
A group of guys will almost always be turned away. Germany is just odd about this.
Break yourselves up or find some women to go in with, or arrive super early.

You won't be allowed in any of them without lederhosen.

Thanks, we'll hopefully do what we did in Berlin, ask locals and / or Taxi drivers for recommendations. Guess Jeans for the evening (it's going to be super hot)

Flew in/out of Munich a few weeks back.

If you are flying LH in to T2, ignore the immigration area in the satellite terminal (that is for transit passengers but it is not clear at all) - take the train to the main terminal (signposted as 'exit' or similar) for the immigration in to Germany. When I flew in there was only one border guard and a hell of a queue - so hurry along...

Was told to register again on the machines on my way out before the manual border check, everyone was - which was weird.

Only had a flying visit to Munich as a stop over travelling back from a ski holiday but Museumsstüberl was worth the visit. Didn't do the museum bit but beer was good, food was fine, and building was gloriously crazy inside.

Other thing I learnt - Germany still takes Sunday closing seriously, at least in Feb.

All of the beer gardens are ace!

Been to the Paulaner, Lowenbrau, Augustiner, Hofbrauhaus & Englischer Gartern previously. My favourite was the Augustiner. The one at the viewing park near the Airport was good as well and the cheapest for a litre by a mile (or km) last time I went.

A boat trip on the Starnberger See just outside Munich and easily accessible by train is a nice way to spend a sunny afternoon supping a few beers!

5 mins from the main station, walking in the direction of Marianplatz, is a noodle/soup place called Slurp. Bloody fantastic, and very reasonable prices.

? Why on earth would you go in there??
Avoid Hofbrauhaus, it’s busy and it’s only there for the tourists. Similar for the BMW museum, unless you want to advertise you are a lower level middle manager on an escape from the wife and kids. Which is about 80% of the rest of the blokes in there.

English Garten is lovely to mooch about, but if it’s even vaguely nice weather will be massively packed at any of the places serving a bier.

S8 is the quickest from flughafen, or the S1 also goes the long’ish way into town.

The main places to end up in in the evening are Kennedys and/or Killians/Neds at Sendlinger Tor and behind Marienplatz. Sportsman’s bar is also another decent but quieter bar. There are a cpl of fantastic Greek restaurants in town and, if I recall correctly, the one nearest the Garten will go on till 4am complete with the plate smashing and table dancing.

The U Bahn stops until 5am, so everybody pretty much heads down to McD at Karlsplatz after closing.

Gah, I’ve forgotten where else I used to hang around town.
We once gatecrashed Bastie in Schumanns behind Killians as he was having cocktails with him wife. Still no idea how we got away with that!

Man I miss that town!

Try the HB Weissbier which, on draft, is the loveliest thing when thirsty.

A second thumbs up for the Deutsches Museum.

And remember that portions are generally larger in Bavaria wink

I can't help you with nightlife stuff (I'm more a quiet whisky and cigars type of evening person), but what other sort of stuff interests you or are you looking for?
