I found the below quite an interesting read, if somewhat dispiriting. The question is, though, is it on the money or merely exaggerating?

Why Movie Quotes Died

When was the last time you quoted a line from a movie to a friend? I mean the whole 9 nine yards.

Got into Johnny Ringo’s character from Tombstone and said, “Well… Bye.” Or squinted like Eastwood and ground out, “Go ahead… Make my day.” I’m willing to bet it’s been quite a while.

Years most likely...

I thought this thread was going to be about modern films having less memorable dialogue and fewer quotable lines

My thought was that that was the subtext. All the quotes used so far are from older films

Most modern dialogue feels that awful "so that just happened" MCU snarky quips, or mixed so badly you can't hear it anyway.

Having cleaned both cars I came in to the house last week and said:

"I think a man workin' outdoors feels more like a man if he can have a bottle of suds".

I should add that I didn't sound or look as good as the original.

I thought this was a thread about quotes, not misquotes.

On the original intention of the OP's question: I agree that movies don't seem to be quotable in the same way that they used to be. I blame the takeover of the movie industry by Marvel and DC CGI actionfest bks.

We used to go the cinema quite a bit but I haven't been since before covid (and even then I can't remember what we saw) simply because there hasn;t been anything that has stood out as, "must see that on the big screen" rather than wait for it at home.

Now I think about it, that's really sad.
