Aren't you supposed to put some good bits in the trailer? To tempt people to watch the full thing, like?
Awful. Utterly, utterly awful. On a comedic level. On a technical level. On a creative level. Dross. Unfortunately the sort of level that Gervais has been putting out...I was going to say 'recently' but he's been churning out lowest-common-denominator, Live-Laugh-Love slop for wine-swilling Facebook mums for far longer than he made the good stuff.
I won't be watching it. I really should have learned by now not to watch trailers or previews for new Gervais stuff in the faint hope that something of the man behind The Office and Extras would be there. Alas no - just some egotistical, lazy, unoriginal fluff.
If anyone without Gervais' pre-existing credibility and built-in audience sent in an animation where some cats go on a date while The Smiths plays underneath and the lyrics are literally animated as events on screen it would be derided as student-level cringe.
And Gervais seems to think this is some bleeding-edge, radical, challenging, never-done-before comedy. Ooo, a cartoon with animals that swear! That's only been done, I dunno, dozens of times already. And he seems to completely degenerated into thinking that the c-word is a punchline. Like the humour of a 13-year old.
Hard pass. Time to listen to the podcasts with Merchant and Pilkington again and remember how good Gervais used to be before is ego consumed him.

I started watching the trailer with some optimism and it just went the same way as Afterlife.
