I’ve had my VW ID.7 for a couple of years and the lease is up soon so I need a replacement. Despite having 14 other vehicles with ICEs, ranging from 50cc to 6.8L, I’m a convert to EVs for the daily driver.

The ID.7 has been great, really like it save for a few minor gripes but you’re going to get that with just about any car I think.

I’m going to lease/PCP as I don’t want to have to sell it myself in 2/3 years. Not to sound overly PBPHD but I’m not too fussed about the cost; I’d rather have something I like. That said, I’m not going to shell out Taycan/Eletre money (I’d like to, but I really can’t justify that on a hire car!).

Shortlist so far:

ID Buzz - I’ve liked them since they came out, going to look this week but I don’t know whether it’ll be too utilitarian in comparison to the 7?

Cupra Tavascan - I hired a Formentor in Switzerland and it was a really nice car, I’m assuming the Tavascan will be similar, just electric?

Velar PHEV - outsider, I’ve had several FFRRs in the past, really I want EV but the PHEV would probably cover a lot of my journeys.

Explorer - boring but safe option

Don’t really want a Tesla, I’m not sold on the Chinese cars (I’m sure they’re very good, but just a bit anodyne?) and I’d rather walk than have a Vauxhall.

Anything else I’ve missed?

I’m in a similar boat, we are replacing the family hack and now that I’ve got solar (power wall on its way) it makes sense to go EV, I should add we have the Renault 5 as a runabout, which we love.

I’ve narrowed it down to the Tesla Y (wife dislikes it), the ix3 40 and Volvo EX60. I’m interested in the Zeekr 7 but they still haven’t started exporting to the U.K. so my October deadline is a problem. I think I’ll go Volvo but if it were purely my choice I’d go for the Tesla.

From your list I'd have the ID Buzz. Maybe others are more capable technically or better value, but if I was spending that sort of money anyway I'd go for the one that I loved the look of and wanted to drive around in.

I’m slightly put off the Kias as MrsC has a Ceed which we both dislike intensely and can’t wait to get rid of! Of course the ones above may be different.

I’ve toyed with the Ioniq but I’m really not a fan of how they look, those fake grilles/strakes just don’t work for me.

Be interested to hear how you find the Volvo, for some reason (I may very well be wrong) I thought they got a bad write-up?

Love the R5 but I do need something a bit bigger really.

I'd just get whatever you fancy that appears on the first page of deals on leaseloco. Another ID7, an i5, an enyaq, an iX m70 if you want to go mad...

(some of those have better rates for business leasing, especially BMW iirc)

Not to my knowledge, you may be confusing it? The new EX60 has only recently been launched and the YT reviews are very positive, especially for practicality and comfort, which are the main criteria for us. The BMW ix3 is a better drive by most accounts but that doesn’t bother me in this class of car.

If I order soon I can get into a car by October, the Tesla ticks all the boxes and is cheaper, but convincing my wife is no easy task. I love the Buzz, it the range is a problem for me, I want 350 minimum.

Which Buzz gives you anywhere near 350?

What sort of mileages are you doing on journeys? Skoda Enyaq do a Laurin and Klement version, and it is a very good BEV. Renault Scenic is also very well thought of. Going up in price, there is the new BMW iX3 Neue Klasse, the new Mercedec GLC and the new Volvo EX60.

All worth a look at.

I think he's saying he likes the Buzz but it doesn't have the range he wants?

I think the LWB with the bigger battery is sad to get up to 280, no idea what that is in the real word tho.

Thanks, I'll take a look. I just want something nice/interesting, if that makes sense, rather than just a white goods car.

None to my knowledge, which is why I wouldn’t consider one, though I do like them.

Top gear mag had one as a long term test - range was pitiful, I think it struggled to do 200, careful, planned miles? but that may have been an older model

The ones to consider are either a Volvo EX60/90, or a Mercedes GLB 250+

The Merc has 7 seats, 280bhp and 300+ mile range. The Volvo EX range is a game-changer.
