Just thought I'd post a cheerful story :)
I spoke to Richard at Mannings today, to put the other half on the insurance for the Griff for the weekend. Customer service was excellent - he knew who I was, had brilliant telephone technique, and the cover note was faxed through within 15 minutes.
On top of that, he was thoughtful enough to say 'well if you're going abroad, shall we just run through all the contact numbers, because they changed recently and I want to be sure you've got the right ones'. Great stuff.
One of those business encounters that leaves you feeling pretty good.

Not sure if this comes under the "naming and shaming" policy.
I have recently moved from Manning to another company and have twice spoken to "Ben" at Manning to request they send me a letter indicating my NCB entitlement. As yet I have received nothing.
This is somewhat ironic given the "advert" on page 15 of this months Sprint which includes the following:
"Some classic policies, although not Cornhill, which we {Manning} recommend, will not provide proof of no claims bonus if you want to take your business elsewhere. So take care."

Well you'll always got the odd hiccup with any company insuring large numbers of TVRs.
Personally I'm a big fan of Mannings: the proof of the pudding is in the eating and I wrote my Cerb off in January this year. Mannings sent me a cheque for the full amount within three weeks and I couldn't fault anything. Best of all, come renewal time my premium went up by... a whopping £60 (!) to just £700 fully comp... (Nottingham, 33, protected NCB).
Having put this company to the test I can't fault them. Highly recommended.

Is this legal? Sounds like unacceptable practice as every new insurance company I've been to has asked for proof of no claims. I'll see them in court.....

You're lucky. I phoned, faxed and emailed, then got my new insurer to call them, which prompted Mannings to call me to tell me my policy had lapsed. No sh*t, Sherlock.
They won't be getting any more of my money.

Just an update to say that I received my letter this morning.

I switched to Mannings this year, T350C 2003, £634 all in, fully comp, protected ncb, unlimited mileage.
My renewal with Classicline was £1148. Comparable quotes were Direct Line £1002, Privilege £892, Sunninghill £869.
You need to find an insurer which suits your profile, saying it doubled when I switched to a Tuscan is meaningless. The early Tuscans had a terrible claim ratio. Manning don't want them so they jack the rates up. As it is, my postcode and current car suit their profile, hence the competitive rate.
The solution is to ring round 4/5 insurers each year on renewal and find the insurer that best fits your individual profile.
