OK, so...I'll try to not bore you all to death and keep this short.

I'm a Brit living in Germany. My family are gifting me one of my dream bikes a first gen Aprilia RSV.

One of the things I'm VERY keen on is a nice sound. The issue I have is the bloody German TÜV. Its LUDICROUSLY strict.

I want to know the following...

1) is it possibly the crack open the stock can and repack it for more noise?
2) can anyone recommend a firm to do it?

I don't want race level noise....but rather a nicer burble.

I doubt the stock exhaust relies on packing, that's normally the aftermarket design.

I think it's more likely to be made up of chambers/pipework routing the gases around, that said it should be possible to open it and make some internal modifications i.e remove the baffling or at least some of it.

I know there are online descriptions of doing similar (gutting) to Ducati cans, I'd be surprised if no-one's had a go at an Aprilia.

If the end is held on with rivets, that's the way to get in there... wink

Whoa do not modify your standard exhaust, unless you've got another standard exhaust to fiddle with. Otherwise, when you do get done for noise you'll be hunting around for another standard exhaust which suddenly become incredibly rare and expensive. Your best bet is to get a TuV approved exhaust muffler which has a removable db killer/baffle but they might be thin on the ground.

The standard mufflers are a job and a half to make louder properly as they (as per post above) chambered. If I remember correctly they're fully welded too. So there'll be a fair bit of fabrication work required cutting it open, converting to perforated tube (and packing) and closing it up again. For slightly more spend and much less faff it's easier to buy something proper from Arrow, GPR, Leo Vince.... For less spend you might be able to pick one up from Ebay

I'm kinda torn.

My bike didn't come with a stock can...just some good awful trumpet looking thing that's HIDEOUS.

I can buy a stock one and try a model without messing up a second stock one that's been gifted to me.

I can rip it open and mess with the pipework. Sadly through they are welded together not pop riveted...so I need to befriend a someone with a TIG wielder ?

I think for maybe 80 more o can get a MIVV can.

Thanks chaps.

Oh so you've got some soup can of a thing already which is too raucous? What is it? If it is as old as the bike it may have blown all of its packing out.
