On a Saturday I volunteer at a car museum and my wife cooks a 'special' meal in the evening.Tonight, at my request we had home made smash burgers. Not made or eaten them before but we had discussed the principle of thin burgers with crispy edges. After serving them I was asked 'how were they'? I replied that they were good but I expected them to be thinner and with crispy edges; they were actually great tasting, regular thickness burgers, but not what I was expecting. I was then advised that next time I could cook them! Did I give her the 'wrong' answer and are others familiar with this situation?

The only correct answer to 'how were they' is a positive one. If they ask for feedback, or how they might be improved in future, a very gentle suggestion might be acceptable, but only with caution.

Come on man, every man with a 'significant other' should know the basics.

No one likes to be told they cooked it wrong biggrin I'm sure you didn't mean it to sound like that, but that's probably what it sounded like.

By the way, the first time I smashed a burger in the frying pan it was a revelation. Miles tastier than baking or grilling and it took up the entire width of my bun instead of being a silly tall thing in the middle.

"Will you still love me when I'm old & grey"
"Of course I do". getmecoat

NB: The dress thing... just enquire if she has still got the receipt.
(Covers most things... too small, gopping etc.)

Next time just smile, nod and say something 100% positive. It’s much easier than causing The Wrath of Kahn.

Just do a Lee Evans impression to diffuse the situation.

Just remember these words as well,

1. "Fine" = "This is the word women use to end an argument when she knows she is right and you need to shut up."
2. "Nothing" = "Means something and you need to be worried / on high alert."
3. "Go Ahead" = "This is a dare, not permission; do NOT do it."
4. "Whatever" = "A woman’s way of saying 'screw you' or 'go to hell'."
5. "That's Ok" = "She is thinking long and hard about how and when you will pay for your mistake."

What do they mean when they say "I think you should go away and think about how i actually feel about your behaviour, over the last 10 years"

Or "There's no point in you saying sorry, because if you'd ever been sorry you would make sure it didn't happen"

What do they mean when they say "If you really cared ...."

Or even to defuse the situation, depending on how you like your risk.
