For those who have taken their car into Europe recently, could you please share the wait times in Folkstone and then again in Calais on the return?

I'm not sure what to expect and how much extra time to factor in. Thanks!

Depends when you are going, half term this week so lots of delays, currently several hours in total

It'll depend on day and time of day surely? And whether it's school holidays (ie this week...)

Google maps gives a decent indication up to check in IME.

As others have said there’s lots of variables. Mid week although half term shouldn’t be as bad as today with the rush to get away. Timing also changes things, 6am quiet, 11am probably not so quiet.

The bigger problem is coming back, I’ve always had the big waits in France.

Possibly timing again? We're normally ok in France but have 4 hours to do in the UK so have a lunchtime crossing.

Wednesday morning I'd expect M25 rush hour to be the biggest factor.

Midweek departures should be ok, but your journey time to Folkestone will vary if you hit the M25 rush hour.

We are booked for the 8.50am this Tue, but since we are leaving around 6.00am we shouldn't encounter the M25 rush hour traffic. Should arrive around 7.20am and usually get on an earlier train. The very reason I avoid 10-11am departure times as it means traveling bang in the middle of the M25 rush hour!

We are coming back on Sat around 5pm which is peak time, hence I expect it will be busy as many Brits will be returning from their half term break. I always give myself min. 2 hours for the return leg, and again hopefully get offer to an earlier train.

We have a 8.30am departure on Weds morning (so can leave up to 9.30am I think). We are a 2hr drive from the terminal (in average traffic) but are planning to leave home at 5.30am. Should be fine then I hope? smile

I spoke to them last week - they said they weren't implementing EES until the Autumn at earliest, probably next year.

...so the queues at Folkstone should be just the same as normal (which is to say that Half Term might be a headache, albeit mid-week should be a safer bet.

If you can, change to Flexi+, it is more money but 100% worth it to not have to hit a specific time. You can get there, sit in the lounge and be ready at your own pace. Wouldn't do it any other way!
