Apparently I'm now prediabetic.
Discussion
Had a blood test in the week, which I thought was for checking cholesterol and the latest increase in Statin dosage.
Just got an email, no gentle chat from doc
, you are prediabetic and here are some websites to look at.
The gist appears to be lose weight. If I lose anymore I'll look ill but at 81kg and 180cms my BMI says that I've overweight??
Also exercise??
I hike, I cycle, I go to the gym every other day and workout hard. Running, weight machines and free weights.
I walk rather than use the car, my former job was certainly not sedentary.
Now 63 and feeling fitter than I have been for decades. I look good too
OK, I do still like a drink, crisps and chocolate but mainly cook from scratch.
So, do I stop doing the one thing I truly look forward to, eating?

I am T1D. Sounds like your exercise and BMI are fine.
My Dad was diagnosed T2D many moons ago. Cycles everywhere, bell rings, normal range BMi etc. etc. He cut out his cakes and biscuits and managed to reverse the diabetes for many years. Some people are just prepositioned for T2D despite what is a comparatively healthy lifestyle and fitness level.
Late last year despite changing his eating habits he is now T2D again (aged 82) and on medication to control his blood sugars.
Now the 'orrible bit. Take it seriously. Trust me, you do not want the complications of diabetes. I have been T1D for 45 years. I have a few complications, mainly around retinopathy (retinal bleeding). It is a major worry having the constant 'threat' of sight loss hanging over your head. But other complications of limb loss and kidney function loss etc. are real, especially in a T2D who are constantly running a higher blood sugar levels.
At the moment, you have the opportunity to make some 'simple' lifestyle changes to make a difference.
Best of luck, there are many T2Ds on here to help out.

I was prediabetic for several years in row. Did nothing about it, then ended up type 2 diabetic.Just got an email, no gentle chat from doc

Read the advice they have given you but most of all, do your research, become an expert. You have a chance to make things right before its too late.
Despite being fit you are clearly prone to it. Sounds like its the sugary treats that effect you. Would be worth getting a blood sugar monitor and seeing how certain meals and food effect your blood sugar.
I was pre-diabetic and all I did was severely cut down on sugary shyte. Not cut out because you end up craving it.
I used to take two heaped spoonfuls of sugar in my tea and proceed to eat a pack of biscuits alongside it. Just reduce the sugar in your tea by a quarter of a spoonful per week and your tastebuds will adjust.
As for the biscuits, look on the pack to see the sugar content per biscuit and aim for no more than 10g. For chocolate biscuits that usually means 2, plain digestives are usually 4 and rich teas are 6.
I usually have at least one day a week where I just have an M&S sarnie for tea and I allow myself a chocolate torte desert, even though the sugar per torte is 16g. Doesn't matter as the sarnies are only 3.6g.
Just by doing that, I lost 2 stone without any additional effort, which would have helped in itself too.
My sweet tooth is just about dead now and there is no way now I could eat a full bag of smarties. 8 or 9 smarties is about 10g of sugar and I am more than satisfied with that now.
Good luck.

Cheers for replies all.
I only have one cup of tea a day and am already down to just a few granules of sugar.
One coffee in the morning with honey.
But biscuits, if in the house they are gone, same with puddings and chocolate.
I don't put on weight which I think is due to working out so thought that was ok.
So it looks like cut out the sweets, which should save money. I'm partial to red wine quite a bit, and gin from time to time. Guess those have to go to.
