How do I stop ants from digging up all the sand between my paving stones? I'm not bothered about having ants in the garden, I'd just like them to stop doing this!

All ideas welcome. Thank you.

Ask them politely but firmly to stop

If that doesn’t work then i’m not able to offer any further advice

Kettle, boiling water.
Thanks to a tip on here I used granules.

Ants went within a couple of days when previous use of powder and the clear spray didn't seem to have any effect on them.

Do Bisto or own brand work better?

I tried - they responded by coming into the house via the dishwasher laugh

I'm not a fan of killing them, I just want to stop them digging the sand up.

You think that's problem, we had the pouring out of a plug socket in the kitchen, kept spraying the socket which didn't seem to stop them, then took the socket off and sprayed down the holes where the cables came in. took a few days to finally cure it.

Then the switches wouldn't work on the socket, took it apart and it was rammed full so the switch couldn't move, can't understand why they didn't electrocute themselves.

We're currently providing bed and board for two cows. I noticed they were using their horns to dig into some ants nests and were then rubbing their cheeks and throats in the disturbed earth. Apparently the ant gunk acts like an insect repellent.

So borrow some cows.

Im imagining how that conversation went, Hey mate can you look after a couple of cows for me while im in tenerife for a couple of weeks, yes mate no problem, just stick them in the garden when your passing.
Well made me chuckle.

The powder worked to stop them pulling the sand up on my block paved drive. Stopped them coming in the kitchen too.

Cinnamon works as well.

I think ants are fascinating. We had some in the kitchen last year; somehow they had figured out I'd put some jars of home made jam on top of a kitchen cabinet and one of the jars had leaked and was sitting in a pool of fruity goo.

The ants had 'got wind' of it and there was a constant stream across the floor and up the cabinet to the jar. I just moved the jar away, cleaned the top of the cabinet and within a couple of days the word got back to ant base - no more ants.

They live, as far as I know, under the paving slabs outside our front door, we don't normally see them.

We have the usual ant problem, 5 nests in the lawn at the moment, and then I came home to this this evening

Interesting!
Hopefully they don’t leave a white powdery mess like the normal ant powder you can get?

I have sprayed WD40 into nests. Worked perfectly. However, not best in some areas.
One was in a wall with poor mortar. Nest inside the gaps. It was a remote wall at the end of the garden. Done a few years ago and no further problem.
Last one was down the edge of a patio. Porcelain tiles. Same effect as before. No staining of the patio. I tested it on a couple of offcuts I had.
We do get an occasional ant but no nests anywhere so far.
You could use WD40 on pavers if you use the tube to spray carefully into the joints, avoiding surface overspray as much as possible.
We had the front drive redone 2 years ago and fine grit used instead of sand to bed it. No ants at all....so far!
