I love soft ice cream and I'm tempted by the Ninja Swirl.

However, some of the online reviews indicate that it might be a bit of a faff as fruit needs to be pre frozen.

Others use packet mixes, which are not ideal as I try to use fresh ingredients.

Has anyone used the Swirl or recommend an alternative.

Use fresh fruit and freeze in advance? Takes a bit of planning, that's all.

Frozen fruit is easy to buy from supermarkets. If its like veg its usually fresher than the 'fresh' veg as its frozen sooner after being picked.

Why don't you want to buy frozen fruit? It's the best way to get it for most cases IMO. Cheaper, more practical and as above will be frozen immediately.

True.

But I was asking if anyone had any real life experience of the Ninja Swirl or similar.

I don't always trust online reviews.

Gossip in chef circles is that the Ninja 'Creami' is a domestic version of the (hideously expensive) PacoJet, which Ninja were able to duplicate once the patent expired.

I'd get one.

You need to freeze the canister though, so bear that in mind, plus I'd imagine you'd want a few. I am short of freezer space, which is the only barrier to me buying one.

I've watched the videos and it does seem a bit of a faff, with various parts and processes, and stuff that then needs cleaning.
I'm sure the ice cream is lovely though. But after the first week I reckon it would join various other small appliances at the back of a cupboard where it does a great job of looking sad and being ignored.
