I've recently bought a plate on retention from a business. I filled in the form to change the nominee to myself and included a letter to DVLA telling them that I was to be the registered keeper and nominee. Unfortunately however, the DVLA has sent the V778 back to me with my name as nominee (good), at my address (good), but with the company name at my address that I bought it off (not good).

How do I best progress this?

Just sent the whole thing back with another letter?

You can’t change the grantee. Why do you want to?

The grantee field is effectively pointless, as once the plate is applied to a vehicle (any vehicle, regardless of grantee) it will then revert to the registered keeper of that vehicle upon removal.

Is there a reason you haven't applied the plate to your vehicle?

Apply the plate to your vehicle and it will *definitely* be in your name and address, then either leave it on there and enjoy it, or remove it back on to Retention (which would then have your name and address, assuming you are the Registered Keeper of your vehicle).

Send it back to DVLA with a short letter explaining:
“Please remove [company name] from the document. I am the sole nominee and keeper. Keep my name and address as shown.”

Attach the original V778 and any covering letter you wrote before. Keep a copy. Send recorded delivery.

You haven't done this before have you?

As already stated, the nominee name has been added, the address changed. The Grantee name can't be changed.

If you want it in your name properly, then assign to a vehicle and remove. They, and only then, will you be the Grantee
