Private purchase- couple of questions

A car has come up for sale I’m interested in but I have a couple of questions I’m unsure about, firstly there is outstanding finance, I believe this can just be paid off on the day doing all the correct due diligence. Secondly, and this is the one I’m not sure about, the car is apparently in his wife’s name, now I’m not sure why you would do this ? Maybe something to do with the finance? Anyway it’s not a main stream car and the guy seems genuine enough, but in this day and age I’m just a bit paranoid I might be missing something and it’s not a cheap runabout.

Maybe it's his wife's car, girls are allowed to be registered keepers of cars.

If my wife was going to sell her car it would be me doing it, not her and it would be in her name as its her car. So i can't really see an issue here.

If his wife is the main driver she should be the registered keeper for DVLA / offences etc. The keeper is not the same as the owner.

Heaven forbid women should be allowed to actually have cars registered in their name and even more so to be the legal owner.

They will be insuring them in their names next

It’s his car , she doesn’t even drive it apparently. He mentioned it so got me curious is all.

Maybe he's got a rubbish credit rating so put it all in his wife's name to get finance.

I had a better credit rating than my wife so got cheaper car finance and so the car was in my name even though I never drove it.

Sound like it might be registered to the wife so any NIP's come to her rather than him, particularly if she doesn't drive anyway.

Same here. However, if there's a more reasonable explanation it's wouldn't put me off.

Could just be that his wife is the main earner and so has financed the car in her name. My SiL earns around 4 times what her partner does, bloody wimin taking all the mens jobs - should be outlawed I tell you.

Doesn't seem like a sensible reason as surely she would just reply nominating him as the driver... Unless of course they want to risk spending some time away at His Majestys pleasure.

It doesn't matter as long as she's there to show me some ID that matches the address I wouldn't need an explanation.

I'd be more concerned about receipts & condition.

Why would you even ask for ID if the address matches V5?

Its going in another name, the buyers, just view between 7 and 7, so you can change it there and then, get a receipt with the time on it.

I can't see any issues, if the car is right, wtf is there to worry about?

Personally I wouldn't but the OP seems a bit of a worst case scenario person so I was saying that so it would ease his mind.
