My lad looking to buy a car so I’ve HPI’d it.
A mileage discrepancy has been flagged up but I can’t quite work it out.

Car registered May 2016 so first MOT due 2019 (but MOT done in June)
For some reason the mileage was first recorded in 2018 by the NMR (see pic)

However, the mileage stacks up against the old MOT’s.

But, reason for this MOT date?
Expiry 18 months after it was MOT’d?

Covid - of course.
How did I forget about those wondrous days..

So what about the NMR mileage in 2018?

Could be I suppose, but why would the mileage even be recorded only 2 years after registration, by the NMR?

Could be as reported at a service or insurance renewal.
Most likely at a service and the garage just got the numbers off the computer forgetting that most show that in km. Does the date tally (or almost) with a service date?

At change of keeper, mileage can be recorded, although it's not compulsory. perhaps this was it?

A small anomaly 8 years ago wouldn’t bother me in the slightest.

Not sure if it links to the NMR, but you are able to input an odometer reading when selling a car.. so if that links to the NMR then it may be the reason, especially if that reading was in kms rather than miles as there is no way to specify which unit on a V5 document from memory.

There's a chance that's been clocked.

The first reading points to about 850 miles per month.

Take 850 miles per month up to it's first MOT and that's about 30,000 miles.

Many cars are clocked just before their first MOT.

If that's a high value car, dealers won't buy it.

I'd run away. Probably from when it was serviced so got chance it had a hair cut. Either way, even if it's a mistake, its going to be there on its history forv every savi potential future buyer to see

Until its trade in/sale time and you need to convince buyers it's all legit smile

I'd want to compare it with service info for the first three years as to whether or not the mileage stacks up.

Was there a change of owner at year 2?

How much is the car for sale for?

Going to check it over against the service history at the weekend.
I think it’s likely to be an input error.
