We're just about to get a Zappi charger installed and I'm wondering whether we need a screen version or not.

One of the reasons we're going with the Zappi is for the app control so wonder whether we need the screen on the charger itself.

I've never had a screen on any of the chargers I've had (albeit non Zappi) and can't say I've missed it. A couple of status lights are worth having I guess, but nothing more is needed wihen you have the app

I have an Ohme charger with a screen, don't think I've ever used the screen, do everything on the app.

Interestingly, as someone who lives their life, both professional and personal, around technology, I always use the keypad and display on my Zappi, at least for PIN to charge, and for some of the setting that aren’t in the app.

I have a zappi and solar panels.
I quite often plug the car in, then go to the zappi and either override the charge delay or select/deselect eco modes.
It would be much more faff having to get the phone out and use the app.

Can't remember when I last used the Zappi app.

We have one with a screen and I often cast a glance to see what’s happening when walking past. Personally I’d say better to have the screen than not as it gives more options with how you use it.

I've used the screen on mine very occasionally just to check what is happening without opening the app.

I wouldn't say it is worth another £180 over the GLO and is possibly something else to go wrong.

I have never used the app so the screen is something I use a lot.

The GLO has a more reliable PEN protection system, so it's less lightly to trip out.

I have a 10 year old non smart Rolec box and use the settings within the car or the car app on my phone to manage charging. So I'd say a screen on the box is a nice to have but not really needed.

I have a screen. Have never looked at it since setup.

I also went for a tethered cable, and regret it now, the cable is getting a bit sun-faded and scuffed from dragging on the ground, and I would replace it if it wasn't attached. Still functional though. I've also heard of a few cases where the cable fails before the charging unit, and with tethered you can't just swap the cable out. Next time, I'll fit an untethered charger, but hang a dedicated cable on the wall next to it. HTH.

I have a (three-phase) Zappi which I selected for its solar panel integration and really pleased with it.

For day to day use the app is all I need but there are settings (as far as I can see) only accessible through the screen.

Presumably for ones without the screen there'll be another way to access configuration settings but I haven't been able to find it. My installer did all the set up from the screen then checked it was all working through the app on my phone.

Hope this helps.

What charger is it? Never heard of a tethered cable not being replaceable. You can swap them out. That’s how you can choose the length of cable. I had my original 5m cable replaced by the installer when it was new as I complained to the manufacturer that it came twisted out of the box. I also enquired about getting a longer 7.5m/10m replacement later.
