HP3 8100 V8 Crate Engine
GM are at it too with an 8.1 litre V8 chucking out over 500bhp!
Discussion
Have trouble with reading do we?
"We've incorporated all the strengths of the Vortec 8100 truck engine into the Vortec HP3 crate engine, including the emissions and fuel economy improvements we've made over the years," said Terry Andrzejewski, GM Powertrain Vortec HP3 development engineer.
Although it's bloody powerful, it'll be pretty useless in anything but a drag racer - it's too heavy to make a sports car handle, and it'll only just pull it's weight (most Ferraris and Lotuses will thrash a Viper in a drag race anyway). Proves my point that most American cars are simply designed to waste their cheap fuel.
500bhp is just the starting point remember - it'll have a really mild cam in it, cats in the exhaust, restrictive carb setup, a typcial factory compromise basically even though they call it a sporty high performance engine.
650-700bhp readily available after sorting the above, no problem, all for about $2k of parts.
