Renault 4 E-Tech
Discussion
Dropped into our local Renault dealer yesterday to look a the 5, but they also had the 4 in the showroom and I have to say I really liked it.
Better row 2, better boot (no lip at all), and like the 5 the interior is a really nicely designed space with some really nice touches, I assume you can turn off the annoying AI helper?!
We’re looking to potentially replace Mrs 595’s car (my second company car) at some point and either of the Renaults feel like very strong contenders. Feels like the right time to try an EV.
Has anyone on here got one? Interested in your thoughts.

I'm also interested in one. I've been pondering on the switch to full electric, for cost reasons, and to dodge any future snafus in diesel availability. I really like the 5, but it's not quite practical enough for me. But the 4 may be just the thing.
I had a good poke about one at the local dealer, and it's a lovely thing in the metal. Full of character, a lovely cockpit that feels funky/chic as well as practical/useable. Boot space is pretty good, similar to my current Duster but with a properly low sill. I've not driven one (yet), but it feels pretty comfortable, and the videos I've watched suggest it's a fun steer.
It does seem a little dark inside, but that would be alleviated by the fold away canvas roof. The back seats seem a little cramped, but useable.
I'd want mine in green, with white three bolt steel wheels!

I don't know about the mechanics but Renault are turning out some pretty good looking cars in what is a boring samey world. The 4 and 5 although miles bigger than the originals have the styling and proportions spot on.
I remember going on holiday with great Uncle Reg in 1975 (I'd be 5) in his Renault 4. From Gretna to Gatehouse Of Fleet. The plastic vinyl seats burning my legs when the car had been sitting in the hot sun, The column gear change, if I remember that right and our pet whippet Honey pissing in the car.
Stuart a lad I was at ag college with 1988 for a couple of years. His old red R5. Racing about the campus and the state roads. Handbraked it and the subframe snapped. Sold as scrap to the St Quivox recovery folks who turned it into a liveried breakdown van.

Really considering one of these as the family car to replace our diesel Skoda Superb as trips are usually 20 mins from home.
We will loose boot space, but 95% of the year it’s only half full.
Wife likes the canvas roof, and I would be keen too but I think you can’t spec transport rails with this option (bikes and roof box).

We’ll probably be going electric in the next year or so.
I’ve visited our local Renault dealer and the 4 is a great car and top of our list. I’d definitely be wanting the electric roof and if needed for bikes I’d spec a tow bar.
I’m going for a test drive soon in the 4 and the 5 but I think the 4 is going to be that bit more practical.

My mom got one a few weeks ago to replace a Duster, the familiarity of all the switch gear and the low sill on the boot were all she cared about. I won't get any more on what it's like than "it's nice". I had a good poke about one at the local dealer, and it's a lovely thing in the metal. We test drove one for Mrs Pizzaeatingking yesterday and ended up going for one. She currently has a VW Touareg that is lovely to drive but costs a huge amount in diesel for her 3 days in the office and daily 1 mile drive to the gym. Looked at the Panda, which was funky but a little bit too much of a drop in quality and comfort from the VW. As soon as she sat in the Renault she was smitten. Took it out and was really impressed with it, pokey enough, one pedal driving was ace and it felt enjoyable to chuck about a bit.
Inside was plush, well put together, the screens were nice and the infotainment was easy to use with proper heating controls rather than touchscreen. Bit of a shame that heated seats & wheel are reserved for the top spec model but with preheating it wont be too much of an issue. Ours should arrive by the end of next month hopefully!

I absolutely love these, theyre so quirky in such a good way. I saw one in that colour last week at the garden centre, much bigger than you'd think. And really stood out among the blandness of the cars around it.
I'd definitely consider one as a replacement for our Honda Eny1 next year.
Father in law wasn't as impressed as me, seemed to shutter when I said 'Renault 4...'

I've been thinking about one of these for Mrs GT to replace her 11 year old Vitara that never leaves our post code, I.e. EV makes sense.
Do they all have dark headliner, that would put me off.
Can you get extended warranties from Renault?
We always keep cars 10 years+ I want to be sure we're covered at least for the first several years. Have read / watched several road tests covering the eVitara (10 years warranty) but sadly they're not good, laggy touchscreen, poor efficiency 2miles/kWh! etc.

Dropped by at the Renault dealer yesterday looking to book a test drive, and to have another poke around the 4.
They didn't have a 4 demo vehicle, but I had a drive out in a 5. First time in an EV, and it was super easy to adapt. Very nice to drive, more than enough go for a daily, comfy, decent steering. Brakes slightly weird, but they are 'drive by wire'.
While the sales guy was away discussing costs with the manager I had a play around with the menus and stereo. On the Iconic+ it has a Harman Kardon 9 speaker system with sub, and it sounds pretty damn good! I was playing a Jean-Michel Jarre track while I looked through car settings, and found than an option for projected vehicle sound for warning pedestrians is by - Jean-Michel Jarre!!!
I'm going to place an order, Iconic+ in red, I think. J-M J sealed the deal!

Saw some deals on Leaseloco for these and looking to replace Mrs' automatic aygo for something a bit more refined.
Went to test drive yesterday (first EV) and we were both completely smitten. It'll sit alongside my GR86 quite nicely.
Placing the order this afternoon for the nice Green in Iconic spec (they know what they're doing locking the electric tailgate behind the top spec!)

I have one, an Iconic in white. Done 4,000 miles in it now since mid Feb. Mostly charging from home. It is our first EV. We actually went into the dealer to look at the 5, but preferred the look of the 4 in the metal, and it is just that bit more practical.
It has been brilliant for our needs. Great to look at inside and out (IMO) compared to the competition, reasonable space, drives really well and certainly nippy enough. The best bit for me is the Perso button (to the right of the steering wheel) - two quick presses and it turns all the lane assist, speed warning bongs etc off.
It is very easy to adapt to, everything is placed in a sensible location. Range has been about 190 miles at the moment, but I drive it normally, without thinking about range. In February it was down to about 160/170. But I do quite a lot of dual carriageway/motorway driving at 70mph.
Had no issues with it. Charging at home has been straightforward with EDF EV tariff and a Podpoint Solo charger, charging overnight.
Highly recommended.
