Player 1 is offside when ball is passed by player 2 to player 3 who is onside. Player 3 immediately plays it to player 1 who is now onside and scores
Is it offside as it is in the same phase of play?

I would like the ruling, which says

2. Offside offence
A player in an offside position at the moment the ball is played or touched* by a team-mate is only penalised on becoming involved in active play by:

interfering with play by playing or touching a ball passed or touched by a team-mate or

which player 1 was

Ca n a refereee please clarify this

It’s open to interpretation, of what is interfering so var can make a choice on what strip your wearing

This. That Celtic goal should not have stood.

The definition of "interfering with play" now means "a hair on a players nadgers is over a line drawn on the pitch, using a laser, at some time is the past, where that point in time is indeterminate".

I thought it was offside, but give up on the current interpretation of the offside laws.

Thats what i thought, but phrased it to be non committal

I still think the SFA and the Refs are so biased towards the old firm they make FIFA look honest, and that is from a Englishman. between them they screwed Hearts royally

Ruining the game. Big celebrations when a goal is scored only for it to be disallowed, sometimes minutes later.

Offside should be an obvious space between the players, not judged if his todger has just nipped the imaginary line.

Ridiculous. I can't cheer a lot of goals these days as my first reaction is to look at the referee.

Well if it is there'd be goals ruled out every week because players stand offside before every free kick into the box and then move to an onside position after the free kick is taken and are rarely given offside

I think this may apply to the Semenyo goal just now as well.

I think we should have an experient and get rid of the offside rule for a season.

How much goal hanging do we think would happen? And does it matter.

I've seen so many perfectly great goals disallowed because the defence made it their strategy to force players offside, instead of actually trying to defend.

Looking at all the nonsense that goes on in the area with jostling, pushing, blocking etc...I think now would be the worst time to try this wink

Not sure how offiside would affect that. For that the ref's simply have to state that they will start awarding penalties if defenders pull shirts.

Law 11is very clear on this. A player is only offside on becoming involved in active play, and being in an offside position is not an offence.

So unless the ball is played to an offside player by a teammate directly, or they interfere with an opponent, then they are not offside.
