Never had a Ferrari before, my business partner has had a few and he's currently in a 488 Spider which seems to be holding it's value quite well.

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202604281...

From listening to him I'd be forgiven for thinking that anything over 20k miles in a Ferrari is worthless. He's always driven his to about 15k miles and swapped, also quite handy that all servicing etc has been included up to 7 years old.

I'd never really considered a Ferrari, I thought my next purchase would be a 720s Spider or a Huracan Evo Spider but my head has been unexpectedly turned by the F8, I think it looks quite a bit more modern when compared to the 488 which I never really fell in love with.

Is mileage a killer? I'll probably put 10k miles a year on it, I don't worry too much about it and I'm not overly precious, hence me thinking it's not worth paying over the odds for low mileage in the first place.

I'd probably drive it at the weekend and when the weather is nice, to the office and nowhere else in particular other than car occasional car shows.

Other point, it'll live outside as no space in the garage, or perhaps under a semi-permanent structure specifically for this car.

Does it need to be kept on a trickle charger? What spec is essential?

I'd want Apple Car Play and front lift along with the painted shields. What else is desirable and a must have? Oh, I think it must be blue, yellow, or that lovely multi layer deeper red colour.

Thanks for any advice.

Mileage is really only a killer if you intend to move the car on after a relatively short period of time. If that is your intention then the 20k threshold you mentioned is a real thing in terms of value but of course psychological in all others aspects.

They most definitely need to be kept on a battery conditioner but they come with one anyway.

Thanks for the reply. Battery conditioner plugs in by the reg plate on my business partner's 488 from memory, same on the F8? That's easy enough.

Yes the battery conditioner attaches via a magnetic pad the same as on the 488..
Useful tip; ensure that the contact pad on the car is kept clean as you may experience charging issues otherwise.

I've just noticed your registration plate, one digit out from mine!!

Good look finding one with painted shields, ultra rare on an F8.
Bear in mind there are less of these in the roads than there are Pista’s. The values are toppy, particularly with Pista values escalating. Minimising depreciation- Trying to find a high spec car with high miles already is going to be tricky and you could be waiting months or years to find one to your spec.
Going to need to be compromise somewhere. Undoubtedly they’ll be a heavy price to pay for adding 10k p.a. but so what?
I think your business partner has the right idea with the 488. 95% the car for a lot less, a lot more to choose from and less downside for the miles.
Enjoy your search!

Thanks for the extra info. I now know what it could look like with my plate on, what a coincidence!

In terms of 488 vs F8, I've never really considered the 488 and I think I'd regret it, nothing against the 488 at all, it's a wonderful car but I just think the F8 is a worthy looking update in my eyes. You can't spend that amount of money and have the niggle IMO so the search may take a while, I do love the look of the blue one I linked above though.

Edit: Maybe I've confused up the shield thing, do they do to types? Most I've seen have the shields, assume they're not painted so that removes that requirement, I just want the shields.

296 is a far better car with more manufacturer warranty 😱

There are a number of different types of shield, stick on, carbon, etc, but by far the most common are the metal, slightly recessed ones.

I have to agree, also check out the 812 GTS if you want some top down motoring with some mod cons and the ability to use daily, the soundtrack and engine is a real step above an F8.

I ve got an F8 (bought when it was a year old) and lift is the only thing I wish it had. It s fine most of the time but now and again there is a bottom clenching road surface where it would be useful. The other big options differentiator is the type of seat (carbon racing versus standard) and how much carbon you want inside and out (although for a price you can add this later so maybe consider that rather than ruling out an otherwise perfect car for you). Love mine

812 is a touch above price wise and I'm not totally sure I like the 296 although I accept it may be the 'better' car.

Something to consider though. I have a very real mental block at above £250k... and approaching £400k is just never going to get past the boss.

Edit: https://www.pistonheads.com/buy/listing/19316577 - that looks pretty nice though.

Isn’t the 488 supposed to sound better than the F8 being pre particulate filters?

I have read that plenty of times but the 488 doesn't sound particularly wonderful so I'm not overly concerned.

Carbon shields ended with the F12.

Not sure Ferrari did stick on shields, so generally they are recessed into the wings unless painted. Painted are lots bigger.

Each to their own view, but as a 488 owner I couldn’t disagree more than with this comment.

Thanks, I shall add this to my limited Ferrari knowledge.

Fair enough, I didn't intend to cause any offence.

I believe the 488 sounds a good bit better than the F8. Especially in Spider form.

Drive a 458 though.

Also drive a 296.

There is no wrong answer here* - the F8 is also a wonderful car.

it's a difficult choice I think at this price bracket, 296 is objectively a good value car used atm (more so the gtb @ £180k)

f8 looks better though imo and is still suicidially fast for the road

They are all more than fast enough for the road, which is why the 458 is still such a great option.

Why does anyone actually want any more power? You can't use it for more than a fraction of a second.
