We previously had a BMW series 3 GT which we took to about 130k miles, she had a fair share of issues including the rocker box cover, which I painstakingly changed over a week between work via Youtube videos.

A month later the car was then rear ended by a white van and has been deemed written off.

We looking for something in estate format that's more bullet proof, I'm thinking Toyota Corolla Tourer 2L or Mazda 6 Estate 2.5L ?

Toyota Corolla's seem painfully expensive for what you get, I even checked out Suzuki Swaces.

I'm not fussed about it being that fun to drive anymore, more just needing an A to B tool sadly now.
We are midlands based , we can definitely check out any listing recommendations asap

Edit - Btw based on a recommendation on here about 8 years ago I got a Mazda 2 and that's still going strong today!

What is you budget OP? I guessing about £20k?

The usual Lexus offerings are a good choice, the NX is a tarted up RAV4. There are also the IS ans ES saloons that are nice, the ES is ridiculously good value.

The Maxda6 you mention above is a good car. You could also look at Subaru Outbacks, Subaru Levorgs are the same size as the Corolla but a bit leftfield.

I guess its the mileage that has been one of the main points impacting it but looking at that one photo it seems like a buy back from the insurers as just looks like a replacement bumper and valance, of course there may be further damage beneath but I'd be very tempted to buy it back and fix it as part of the insurance negotiations, unless its already at Copart...

Honda Civic Tourer as another option, also Seat Leon estate.

Hate to say it and go against Nin but can't recommend that E-Class unfortunately. Had over £3.5k in electrical bills in the last six months on a car with mileage similar to this and would never get a Mercedes again. However, I could have just been unlucky of course. Just make me very nervous and car I bought was £20k. Mercedes approved warranty is the way and you can buy this independently if the car is under 10 years old. Payment on the link likely to be around £900 and has to be paid upfront. Lovely cars though - awesome to cruise in.

You can only go off of your own personal experiences, I've had Mercedes for many years & never had a bill like that yet but it's a blight of modern cars.

Take a look at this video if you’re interested in the Toyota…

https://youtu.be/JDdUH0BBDD4?si=q6CMaWLlzfJqrMsg

It’s 42 minutes long (!), but it’s the most comprehensive review I think you’ll find about actually living with one. I’d definitely have a Corolla on my shortlist if I was in the market for a capable estate. Oh, and regarding the comment about them being expensive, don’t forget you get a ten year warranty with them if you service them at Toyota.

I went for a V60 Cross Country Petrol this time last year and it's been excellent, would recommend either regular V60 or CC flavour as a worth a look
