The rear tyres on my Exige need replacing and to my horror I find I can only get the Yokohama A048 from Lotus for £170 each. By the way, one dealership wants to charge £85 to fit the tyres!

Anyway, what are the viable alternatives to the Yokohamas? I do use the car on track days, so still want the soft compound semi slick type of tyre.

Hi all,

I'm watching this space as I also want an Exige, I'm sure you can get slightly cheaper tyre's than that

Might be worth looking at Toyo R888s - not sure if the sizes will be right though. Kumho and Dunlop do a track day style tyre too.

Toyo R888s - but they arnt much cheaper...should be £10 a corner to fit...try one of the specialists like www.sinclairebodyshop.co.uk for a better price...generally about £600-650 for a set of 4 though...thought that was quite reasonable myself...you can apy more than that for tyres for a exec saloon !

cheapest price i have had is 155 for each rear which is a fitted price.
just shop around and ask to price match
the r888 is the only real alternative but probably wont save much money

Eliseparts.com do AO48's cheaper than dealers. Shouldnt cost much to get a local fitter to put them on

Or

Check out the Bookatrack venues. They also sell AO48's cheaper than dealers and will fit them for you at the track for £10 per corner(you dont have to be doing the trackday btw)

Just had the rears replaced, mine were £169 incl VAT anf fitting. Stick to AO48's if you want to keep the grip levels high, others will be worse in the dry..

i thought the AO48's were desiged for the exige's light weight hence less of a normal tyre would be pressing on the road if used on the exige - hence the AO48's address that problem. is this not true ?

i asked a local garage if they would fit tyres that are ordered online and delivered to them - they quoted £5 per tyre.... which is nice.

would be interested in the cheapest online price for AO48's if someone finds them.

cheers

Bookatrack and Eliseparts are the only places other than main dealers who can supply AO48's that I have come across

The 39's are /were the standard tyre for the S1 Exige better than 48's in the wet same amount of tread but more expensive. The 48's have a rating of 60 on the side for tyre softness, the 39's are 120 so should last twice as long in theory, and toyo's are around 220 I think.
