Hi All

Had a look and. I could only find old info on this .
I am considering / early planning a scratch build for IVA , I have searched and the prevailing advice is it’s madness . Has anyone done it with success ?

- this is how far I have got in planning
- space frame chassis , taking cues from atom and ultima
- minimal bodywork , think atom and GRP. And a gr40 style rear clamshell
- LS3 and 01e powertrain .
- doors and door surrounds cut off an e92 .
- suspension off wrecked c6 (where engine will come from )
- styling will be aviation related (former pilot )
- I am thinking about using a fighter jet canopy in part (anyone remember the Jaguar Topcat or ground fighter ?) but the IVA requirements seem quite strict on this .
- i think it’s probably 2000- 3000 hours work .
- my job allows big chunks of time but allowing 3-5 years
- £35 k budget - selling my TVR .
- I do have an engineering background

Any inputs ?

Cheers !

Nothing to add except encouragement, and to say that this point is critical!

I'm a physicist who had a spell in engineering and the latter has been a great help in all sorts of real-life situations. Standards and requirements are written by engineers, to be understood by engineers. An aerospace engineer can read and digest building standards, a civil engineer can do the same with aerospace standards and so on. There's a definite Lingua Franca to engineering! On top of that you'll understand how to actually demonstrate compliance with the rules through logic, maths and documentation.

I've never built a car, but from my experience, people who whinge that anything subject to engineering standards didn't get approved, they usually took a "that looks fine to me" approach rather than referring to the standards and engineering a solution to meet them.
