A "Miss Manners" type of question. Do delivery drivers expect a tip, and do you tip them? I normally give the mopedist who delivers the pizzas or chinese a couple of quid on the basis that he has a crappy job and gets paid peanuts, but what about those who deliver heavier items e.g furniture etc. Do PHers give them something for a drink? Is it down to their attitude whether they get something, or is it simply not done at all?

I might make them a brew, but I'm not tipping anyone. You wouldn't tip someone in McDonalds.

If they help unload said large item and help you bring it into the house I would ususally give them a £5.

I usually tip pizza delivery guys.

Refused to tip the pair of stroppy w*nkers that delivered my fridge, washing machine and dishwasher and who wanted to drag them across my newly laid wooden floor because they were too damn lazy to carry them and when I told them they couldn't they left all the packaging in a massive mess on purpose and deliberately scratched the floor. Twats.

Tipped the removals guys though because they were great.

The way I see it, they get paid to do a job. If they do more than I would normally expect, I'll offer a small tip, but I won't up their wages just because I earn more than them...

Call me a stingy old bastard, but to me tips are given for service above and beyond only, especially when you're paying for delivery anyway.

Conversely, the service in my fave Japanese restaurant is never less than exceptional and I always leave a large tip.

Usually tip the pizza boy, but not for heavier stuff. If the service isn't that good, as they're going ask if they want something for a drink. If they say yes, hand them a tea bag.

I deliver some of my furniture sometimes, I never expect a tip, but it is worth noting that most delivery companies are only are supposed to deliver to the ground floor or just to the door. If someone takes something upstairs I always tip ( lucky I now live in a one story house).

When I worked in a decent hotel as a bell boy I always expected a tip of at least a £1 for anything, I know you shouldn't but you get used to it.

Basically if they do their job well then I tip, if they are nice then I make them a cup of tea.

Funnily though if a company s up and the dleivery driver knows about it and makes a effort then I am more predisposed to tip them, go figure

me too.

I don't get tipped if I give good service. It is part of my job to do so.

Also if I give bad service I am quite prepared to accept the bollocking.

Pizza, curry, & chinese take away delivery folk will usually get a small tip from me. As will waiters or waitresses, if the service is good.

I sometimes also give a tip to the fit bird who cuts my hair at the barbers

I tend to just round up when paying - i.e. at the last SW Curry and Blat the bill came to about £145, so I said to round to £160 (I know - not quite rounding but a fiver tip between 8 chaps??), and the same for my haircut - £9 Barber and I always make it £10.

I may not be the heaviest tipper, but then I'm not paid in buckets either - but when I feel like I've been made to smile, I'll be generous...

I always tip my barber a couple of quid - otherwise next time i go back i'll be paranoid he'll screw my hair up on purpose i.e. give me a skin head !! lol

Other than that its only if they exceed expectations.
