Towing two trailers
Discussion
I'm a retired HGV 1 driver!
Just spent two months on the Algarve, driving the camper down through the EU.
I noticed whilst using Spanish motorways that there are a few double trailer outfits, that is, cab, 13.5m trailer, dolly, second 13.5m trailer.
Never spotted one in a service area so could not get an image!
Seemed to be limited to 80klm speed limit with a pair of amber lights at each end
Across the transport spectrum, tankers, logistics, reefers and I was pondering overall train wieght and axle weight limits, anyone who tramps through the EU have any more information for me, please?
TIA

There were a couple of experiments in the 70s in Englad with these, known as doubles at the time.
Dents i believe had one and Whitworths the dried fruit and flour people had authorisation to test them on night trunks from Wellingorough/Irthlingborough sites to Risley as i recall.
Not two 40 ft trailers, they were from memory two single axle trailers so whether they were allowed over the then maximum 32 tons GVW i don't know, never caught on, unless the GVW was increased massively and the length allowed also very few operations would benefit.
Tractor unit used at Whitworths was an ERF B series day cab i recall with 240 Gardner engine.
Our general roads in Britain are not suited to anything longer than a typical wagon and drag or modern extended trailer.
I drove car transporters for years, some of those years with 3 deck semi trailer with peak over the cab, getting around towns was a nightmare with one of those let alone the length 2 semi trailers would result in.
